This actually happened a few weeks ago but I figured I'd share. My buddy at school went to go take a shit in one of the bathrooms. When he walked into the stall, this is what he found.

He called campus PD which responded within a couple of minutes. After initial questioning and him giving them his ID, they actually started giving him shit about the gun because he has a CCW. So naturally that means he would bring his gun to school and then call the cops on himself

. After they moved on from that crap, one went and got a camera so they could take pictures for their report. Those on scene asked my buddy their questions, took his info, and told him they'd give him a call if they needed anything.

Here's the kicker.........Turns out it was the Police Chiefs duty weapon. He went to go take a shit and wedged his gun back there so it wouldn't weigh down his pants and make them touch the floor. After he was finished taking the browns to the superbowl, he left and forgot this small little token. My buddy, who is a Paulbot, actively posts on one of the local news station's facebook page. He told them about it so they contacted the school.

The chief was pretty adamant about keeping it a secret that he was taken a shit and was vigilant in making it clear that it was found, "on a urinal." I guess he was a little embarrassed about going poopy. Which to me is the last thing I would have been embarrassed about, at that point.

He then said he was going to enroll himself into a 4 hour weapons safety course which was, "More than [he] would ever give one of [his] subordinates as they would have only received a verbal reprimand."

For our LEO's on the site: What is typical of your department when an officer loses a duty weapon? -Just curious because I'm not familiar with what is SOP with these type of things.

Keep in mind, considering he's Chief, so he kinda makes the rules... The only people he answers to is the Board of Directors or whoever runs the school. Typically a LOST firearm is a pretty big deal, because if you can't keep up with a firearm, what else are you going to lose. Now a stolen firearm is a whole different story.

It really depends on the department.

We had an officer do something very similar a few years ago and IIRC he got a week off without pay and a letter in his file. He was an otherwise excellent officer with almost 20 years on so I am sure that was taken into account when his punishment was decided.

ETA: I'm no admin hater but he's the chief so that almost guarantees little to no punishment.

Hahaha what a f-ed up story! From the campus PD giving the guy shit, to the chief's trying to lie about #1 or #2. I think if your buddy ever questioned his being a Paulbot, this just served as confirmation. Which brings up an interesting question: So, if a chief will lie about where he leaves his duty weapon, what else is he willing to stretch the truth on here and there?

And I don't know about punishment in the LEO world, but I know that losing your weapon in the Army would get you anything from a reprimand to loss of rank at minimum. If you left it in the barracks or something, you might get a verbal, but anywhere else you'd get your ass handed to you. I guess it depends on how much of a f-up you are.

I would be INCREDIBLY suprised if it got reported as "lost"...

More likely there would be a reported "Burglary from a Vehicle" the same day or the next day with the weapon's ID and SN documented in the report.

The whole stolen firearm thing is why he called. He called me after he called campus police and was waiting for them to show up. He said he called them because he didn't know if it was stolen, used in a crime, or even set up as a sting type deal to see what students would do. Like most colleges, there are a bunch of obama's children that hang in the campus area and prey on the students. I'm very glad I have a home with the Mrs. and live far off campus. There has been multiple armed robberies committed against students walking the paths back to their dorms and apartments and also a more violent home invasion recently, where a girl was pistol whipped by 3 black males who followed her into her apartment and then robbed her and took off. She's lucky more didn't happen but the idiots live in the same apartment complex with her so they ended up catching them within 3 hours of it happening.

But yea, he called because he didn't know if it was used in one of the robberies and then dropped there by one of our more stellar students.

The chief never came back for it. They had taken it into evidence and I assume it wasn't until chief got wind of the gun found on campus that he realized something was missing on his belt.
