President Obama has placed himself at the helm of a secret process to mark terrorists for kill or capture, retaining final say on approving lethal action, aides said.

What does "Principles" mean?  Clearly the dictionary definition does not fit, we're talking about a politician.

If something like this leaked out during President Bush's tenure there would be a firestorm.

crickets are all that will be heard from the MSM, just imagine had this come out under Bush! MSNBC would be running 24/7 wah fest type crap, and every liberal news outlet would be crying foul.

Are you sure this is not being done to draw attention away from something which does not paint him in a good light?  Like more bad economic news?  As there is some other kind with this Bozo in charge.

If this isn't an exaggeration to prop up the emperor, it shows just how much of an amateur he is. A man with no military background whatsoever, no foreign diplomatic or strategic interest experience, is micro-managing a hit list? There should be a clear policy dictated to the military which they interpret and make these decisions as opportunities arise. I wonder how many jihadis have gotten away waiting for Obama to finish the back 9 so they could ask him how they are allowed to take out this guy?

Not many.

Mr. Obama is enthusiastic about killing bad guys. He's expanded these types of programs and the places where they strike moreso than Bush. The going theory is that it's much harder to complain about the rights of captured terrorists if you kill them before they can be captured...so hellfire missile up the butt for you, Mr. Jihadi. The left has been eerily silent about it because they don't like terrorists any more than the rest of us do. It was merely a useful tool for bludgenoning the guy they didn't want in office to elect a guy they did want in office.

John,

I think this article was meant to boost his standing in the court of public opinion. The man carries a heavy heart when it comes to being the CIC.

Wait.  Wut?

So, now they are praising him for the very same things they bashed Bush for, for the very things that Obama said he would NOT do?????

Do I understand that correctly?

He wasn't so goddamned enthusiastic about killing bad guys when GWB was at the helm.

Yeah, he expanded the programs because both Congress and the MSM give him a pass on doing it and would have crucified any Republican who would have done the same thing.

And I don't believe for one minute that the left is okay with killing terrorists as I believe they identify with the "downtrodden" freedom fighters.

Sorta makes you wonder when he will get around to people here in the US doesn't it. Mitt I would keep and eye on the sky if I were you.

Keep two things in mind, Fast and Furies, (we know that this administration can murder)  and the fact that the FBI director would not rule out targeted killings here in the US.

the article obviously is written to make him look good.

frankly i dont give a rats ass. his attitude towards capitalism and free markets and the tendency to think the government should be ten feet up everyone's ass is what i dont like about the guy.

his performance in taking out terrorists has been better than say.. a jimmy carter who would have immediately pulled our troops out of everywhere and invited osama bin laden to some meeting where he could talk him into being not so mean.

dont loose the focus, he's a socialist bent on converting this country into an amerikan europe.

the article was written for the middle, the undecided. because the left, if pressed about this doesnt like his record in the war on terror.

I think it's a good thing Obama is doing this in the simple context that it's good the military has a set list of terrorists they are looking for. However, isn't that sort of what was in place with the Deck of 52 during the invasion of Iraq? I'm fairly certain that the military commanders in country don't need Obama telling case by case who to go after and who to leave be. I understand that Obama wants to kill terrorists, but he must understand that military commanders aren't stupid. So I think it's more than likely a political move to show republicans that he's not too afraid to take action in order to possibly win over a few votes.

No doubt.  The time to get the equipment and intelligence assets put together for a program like this takes more than 3 years.

that article is written to make him look pretty good, like he agonizes over each and every thing, how he has matured into the Presidency beyond his initial idealism into a pragmatic warrior.
