I don't listen to the so called "critics", they keep looking for all this deep meaning in everything.

I go to the movies to be entertained for a couple hours and that's it. Give me a couple laughs, fast moving story line and some special effects, that's enough for me.

(yeah, I'm shallow [:)] )

The only critic I tend to pay attention to is Roger Ebert. If he likes it, I generally like it. If he hates it, I generally won't like it. If he thinks it's OK, then I do too. Doesn't matter if I check the review before I go or after I've already seen it.

For example, his review of MiB II was right on the money - it was a sequel just to be a sequel. Not that great a story, and the writing left a lot to be desired. Ho-hum.

"Dune" Critics gave it a big miss.

I thought it was great, well done in trying to whittle the epic book down to 2.5 hours. Effects were decent, too, except when the giant sand worms swallow the portable mining machines that look too much like toys. Individual actors were up and down; Kyle Maclachlan was okay, Juergen Prochnow was wooden, and he acted like he knew his character was getting killed off early. Patrick Stewart was decent as a Fremmon fighter.

The Patriot. You remember it came out the same time as "The Perfect Storm". The liberal critics said the storm was such a great movie and The Patriot wasn't that good. What do you expect from liberal, gun hating,socialist critics. Remember how the critics also got all up in arms because of the scene where Mel gibson's character gave his 2 sons muskets and told them to shoot the english soldier? I agree with KBaker. I usually enjoy most of the movies Roger Ebert likes.

Rikwriter-Mystery Men-yeesh that movie was sooooo bad it was funny. What a waste of a very talented group of actors.

I liked every single movie mentioned so far (haven't seen Mystery Men, though). I stopped seriously listening to the critics after they gave a "thumbs up" to Leaving Las Vegas. This movie was worse than a colostomy. I still don't know how it won an Academy Award!?!?!

I thought this was a great movie, with a really ingenius plot device (the US Postal Service). Many people said it was too long, but 3 hours is 50% MORE MOVIE!! Such a bargain!

I go to the movies to be entertained. I generally do not put too much stock on the opinions of movie critics except for those of Roger Ebert. Decades ago my barometer of a movie's worth was that if Rex Reed hated it, it must be good. BTW, I had a good time taking my son to see South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut and Mystery Men.

I liked lotsa movies that bombed at the box office: Waterworld, The Postman, Paradise Alley.

I also hated a bunch of them that killed at the box office.

I liked Road to Perdition (I think the critics are still kinda up in the air on it). CNN thought it was a scenic road to nowhere. Well, at times the journey is more important than the destination. I really like the last scene that Tom Hanks uses the Tommy-Gun in, where you can't hear the guns firing, you just hear music.

As of late I've been fascinated with movies such as Miller's Crossing, The Hudsucker Proxy, L.A. Confidential, etc., where they show classic architecture, furniture and so on.

For some reason I [b]REALLY[/b] like Paul Newman's office in The Hudsucker Proxy.

I guess the latest Star Wars was the one in recent memory for me. I didn't think it was great, but I liked it, and I was glad I ignored the ones that were crabbing about it.

Some of these critics get a real agenda going about certain directors, actors/actresses, or producers - like some of their targets can either do no wrong, or no right. Then of course national political issues get into it, too.

I remember Studio 54 being panned, but when I rented it, I thought it was great.

Whipped got bad reviews, but I found it really funny.

"Flight of the Intruder" was hated, I liked it. A John Milius movie. Speaking of which....Red Dawn? Think your average critic liked that one?

Ebert hated Fight Club, I liked that one too.

BLACKHAWK DOWN was called racist, since it only involved the killing of poor Somalis defending their country against southern white boys. Well that was the basic gist of the review given by Newsday in long island.

I cancelled my subscription to the paper over that review. Needless to say, I saw the movie four times and bought the Canal St forgery as well as the real BHD.

Fucking reviewers can be real liberal sacks of shit.

Heaven's Gate.

It got really ripped by the critics, and did not do well at all at the box office, but I liked it.
