Had my court date.
Long story short, a dumb mistake on my part cost me:  $500.00, 10 day sentence (5 weekend jail, 5 community service), and a 6 month license suspension.

In summary, don't speed in Virginia.

No priors?  Sounds like you faced an asshole judge with a crappy lawyer.

115 mph on a suburban surface street?  I don't think that's going to go over well in any state, or any country for that matter.

sounds pretty standard for a reckless driving charge in VA w/ a lawyer

Not even close, I ran someone off the road and didn't even get points.

Know more than a dozen folks get caught over 100, no time at all, includeing evading (Cops lost sight of him).

You got off easy for VA.  At least in Arlington County, the CA is seeking 1 day in jail for every MPH over 90.

Lawyer was fine. While the prosecutor wanted my head on a pike, the judge didn't throw out his judgement.  Seemed like he was thinking about it forever.  I was looking at a much longer jail experience.  Aside from the suspension, I think I got lucky.

Sitting in the car now with the wife driving to the gym...weekend jail can't be any scarier lol :D!

5 days to serve for speeding.

In VA anything over 80 is a misdemeanor.  So, if the speed limit on the interstate is 70 mph, don't go 81 mph thinking you'll only get popped for "11 over".

Around here, first time DUIs don't get 5 days to serve.  And we're tough on traffic stuff here.

Good lord.

Is there a probation period after the community service? Did you check with your atty to make sure the misdemeanor doesn't prohibit your firearms ownership?
