Visitor drowns at Lake Tapps

LAKE TAPPS, Pierce County -- A 24-year-old man visiting from Mexico drowned yesterday in a swimming area at Lake Tapps, east of Tacoma.

"He may have been an inexperienced swimmer," said Ed Troyer, spokesman for the Pierce County Sheriff's Department. [green]"Somehow he got in over his head."[/green]

He was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, Troyer said.

The man was apparently visiting family in the area.

Police withheld his identity until relatives could be notified.
