I graduated from University of Wisconsin - Madison - School of Nursing in May 2010. I've been looking for a job since with zero luck. Hundreds of resumes, 16 interviews, zero offers. A month ago I moved to Lincoln, NE from Madison, WI to scope out the Lincoln/Omaha job market. On a whim I applied to a job at the hospital in North Platte (3 1/2 hours west of Lincoln). Got a phone call for an interview last Friday. Interview was yesterday afternoon. It went great. Interview plus chit chat with the interviewer and tour of the facility lasted 2 hours. My interviewer couldn't officially offer me a position, as that's the job of H.R., but she made it pretty darned clear she was hiring me as she took me to H.R. and had me fill out all the new employee paperwork, had me get my picture taken for the employee photo I.D., and then a urine screen. I feel awesome!!!!! AV1611 out........ P.S.: It's a full-time gig: 3 12's, then 4 off. Day/Night rotator at first, but one of the day people on that unit wants to go nights and the unit head actually wants me on days, so I might be days only before long. |

Good to go!!!

Also, just remember to not inject your patients with bleach and you'll be fine. Congrats! |

Good...now get your ass over to the NE home town thread and help plan our shoot. |

I've already got my NE drivers license and have reserved a spot for a CCW training class in Lincoln for April 7th. So, I'm making progress. I've got a Glock 26 and Minotaur holster sitting at home just waiting to be carried.
AV1611 out....... P.S.: Going to be living in Lincoln and commuting to North Platte for the time being, so I guess I'm good for a meet on either end of the state. |

Thanks, RI0T. I'm feeling thuper thith morning! Going to have to lose the Madison lisp, though. Won't be able to ruin the capital building's lawn anymore either.

congrats to a fellow alum!! |

Great news! Now start paying off all that credit card debt you racked up since graduating.

During and after, yeah enough to buy a nice car.

That must have been quite some time ago. If you visited Madison today you'd find the loony leftism has exponentially grown.

Two years with a nursing degree and you couldn't find a job? No offense, but did you have a really bad GPA or criminal record? The only reason I ask is, from the little slice of the world I see, nursing grads can at least find part time RN work at the hospital or graveyard shifts at a nursing home. Anyway congratulations on the job! |
|
Great Lakes region blows for nursing. Too darned many of them. I was a new grad, too. 9/10 facilities aren't interested in new grads at all. So, all the new grads fight over a small number of positions. I had to move two states away to find a job 2 years after graduation.

Good luck living in Nebraska. Hard to maintain that ARFCOM GD Forum attitude when everybody is so darned nice. One of my favorite states.
Now get yourself one of those midwest farmer's daughter for a wife. Friend of mine did. For our 10 year high school reunion. He sent a note for the "what are you up to now" pamphlet. "Married a mid west farmer's daughter. Everything they say is true! Love it!" |
|
Congratulations!!!!! And bless you for having the will and determination to stay the course.
|
|
Congrats. Well done.
I am still amazed how a company will hire a person from out of town, but not one from the same place. Makes no sense. |
|
dude. repeat after me, karma is a cruel cruel bitch and therefore i will not tempt fate.
i withold any comments until after you get a phonecall from h.r. telling you to get your ass to work |

When I graduated nursing school in the mid 90's, you could get a job as a green nurse at just about any facility you wanted. It was wide open.
|
|
You all would be pissed to know how many TN's from Canada and overseas can get a job faster as a nurse than any US Citizen can.
