Had a lady knock at my door about 10:30 tonight. She was asking if I had seen anybody next door today or if I kew if the police had been there. I told her no, I was at work untill 9:30. She goes on to tell me her nephew lives there but nobody is home. She tells me that the front door looks like somebody tried to get in but that they apparently succeeded in getting through the back door. I guess the place was ransacked pretty good.

The only reason I even opened my door was because I was able to turn on my porch light. I kept one foot firmly planted behind the door, and unknown to her, I was wearing my carry piece. I hate it when somebody knocks on my door in this neighborhood after dark, I immediately go to DEFCON 5. City life sucks.

Remember Wargames???

Anyway, They thought they were under nuclear attack, so they moved to Defcon 5.

Ive seen it in other movies too, I just cant think of them right now, but they always count up from 1-5.

To add to the confusion:

Force Protection Conditions (FPCONs), formerly called threatcons, go from Normal to Alpha through Delta.

Then, we get these local cheese conditions using the number system, yet backwards from the DEFCON system. Here we have FLOODCON 1-5 and SNOWCON 1-5. In each, condition 1 is normal operations, as opposed to condition 5.

DEFCONS are only changed at a real high level, so most people really don't give a whoop.

As a sidenote, I used to track DEFCON long ago, and in that job we had an additional level, ADE (Air Defense Emergency) above and beyond DEFCON 1. Go figure.

In Las Vegas, right? I'm sure the convention's name was inspired by the movie War Games. First movie with computer hackers that I know of.

HEY LUMPY223... I totally understand what you mean. I live in the ghetto in a secure building. You have to be buzzed through the front door to even get access to the upper levels of the building. When someone just outright knocks on my front door, it's battle mode around here. I have answered the door with the mossberg more than once.

Easy, simply Division directed readiness postures for Floods and Snowfall, respectively.

FLOODCON:
Various control measures, from monitoring water levels, patrols of low lying areas, filling of sandbags, stockages of food and water, splitting of command and control capability, recalling of personnel, etc. kick in based on degree of anticipated rainfall, actual rainfall, or raising of water levels

SNOWCON is pretty similar, except we get to play with plows and shovels.

It would appear as though I had the DEFCON levels reversed. I am always in a state of awareness living here but those late night nocks really up the level. The last guy turned out to be some 20 year old kid who showed up after dark selling magazines. I was wearing my Glock 22 at the time but kept it concealed behind the door on my side. He started in with his preassure sales tactics but he must have spotted the Glock as he suddenly switched gears and decided to take my no as an answer. I never appeared threatening and was trying to keep the door between him and myself. I can only assume he saw it due to how fast his attitude changed. No harm, no foul.
