A Mexican soldier stands guard at a marijuana field, in Los Algodones community, Culiacan, Sinaloa State, Mexico on January 30, 2012.

Magazine looks long. Is it a H&K 33 with rail?

No, it's an ATF rifle.

According to Wikipedia the Mexican military uses the following assault rfiles:

H&K G33 - 5.56mm

M4 - 5.56mm

FX-05 Xiuhcoatl (Fire Serpent)- 5.56mm
A unlicensed/reverse engineered rip off of a H&K G36

Its some form of a SAW.  You can tell by the butt stock and and magazine on the side.

That's what I am thinking. It has the para kit buttstock on it.

Looks like a .308 belt draped over his shoulder. He has another weapon slung over his back as well.

I thought H&K was content that it wasn't a copy after all. Do you have any different information?

Looks to me like an Ollie North Special that exchanged hands and had a gay stock put on it.

The receivers are identical. Yes you are right H&K didn't sue. Content or paid off?

If it ain't an M249/Minimi then I don't have the foggiest idea of what it would be...

I agree with you that what we can see of the stock looks like a M249 para stock.

But I think it is some sort of H&K magazine fed 5.56mm Machinegun like the H&K13E with a para-stock.

That magazine looks like a 5.56mm 40 rounder to me. It does NOT look like it is oriented out the left side of the magazine port of a M249. Further more the front end and barrel area just don't look like a M249., too long and slender.

Its a side-fed magazine weapon, I'm assuming an M249 or derivative. Look at where his hand is, and the pistol grip is pointing directly at the camera.
Looks like an MP5 or other 90-series HK on his back.
The dude could be really short, I bet that's a belt of 5.56 around his neck

You are right I didn't notice the position of his hand on the pistol grip. It is a M249 para-stock with the short barrel with 40 round magazine.

I only ever got SAW to feed from 30 round USGI magazines that were brand new with the green followers. As in fresh out of the plastic wrapper brand new.

I hated the short SAW barrels because they blow gas and debris back in your face when firing from the prone.

I agree that it does look like a 40 rnd mag and it looks a little "off" for a 249. However, when I look at the pistol grip, charging handle, and bipod position I am still temped to say that it is some sort of Minimi variant.

+1, its an M-249 para saw with a 40 round mag.  From the angle of the picture you are seeing the bottom of it; charging handle on the right side, mag well on the left at an angle.  If you look closely you can see the bottom of the pistol grip with the trap door compartment.  Handguard does look weird though.

It's an M249 para.

You can see the bi-pod.

I have no clue why he is feeding it via box magazine.

AFAIK H&K didn't receive any money. They looked at the internals and declared that it was a different design despite the superficial similarities.
