My grandfather gave me this 35 years ago. It's been packed away so long I forgot I had it. I have no idea what it is, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like a French Le Faucheux Target Dueling Pistol.

Definitely a lot of resemblance in the pistol grip.

Hammer doesn't look exactly the same, but definitely have similarities to them.  Whatever it is, it looks old, and looks good, to be old.

ETA:

Found these on an auction website.  Listed as French Dueling pistols.  All of the French Lefaucheux Pistol I found were revolvers, like the ones on Sons of Guns, the 20 shot revolver.

It definitely looks like a French dueling pistol, perhaps not that exact maker. All the ones I'm finding online are frame mounted side locks though. Yours appears different.  Could we get a picture of the hammer/chamber area? Are there any markings at all on the pistol?

Hmmm...Small caliber I presume..like .22/6mm ?

If so..probably a 'parlor pistol'...used for indoor target practice

Looks pretty cool whatever it is. Would be even better if your grandfather had a story about having to use it, and that's where he got it from.

Good call on the parlour pistol. This looks closer.
