WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Constitution allows public money to underwrite tuition at religious schools as long as parents have a choice among a range of religious and secular schools, the Supreme Court ruled Thursday.

The 5-4 ruling led by the court's conservative majority lowers the figurative wall separating church and state and clears a constitutional cloud from school vouchers, a divisive education idea dear to political conservatives and championed by President Bush.

Opponents call vouchers a fraud meant to siphon tax money from struggling public schools.


This will be the end of public education...you watch. The NEA will go apeschitt over this. As will the socialist demoncrats...private schools are about to go hundred-fold in attendance. This ain't about God either...it's about your kids being educated and not indoctrinated...finally.

Surprise!! Once again the Left-wing Media spun this decision into a "conservative" effort to "lower the wall of Church and State separation"

When your liberal friends complain, explain to them that for decades, Gov't money has been going to religious schools.  It's called the GI Bill.  You can go to any college and use your money for that; like Notre Dame, SMU, BYU etc.

The real issue for these bedwetters is the loss of students to indoctrinate.

I wonder if this will also allow for homeschooling expenses?  We homeschool, and a year's curriculum runs around $700.00  It'd be nice if I could get some of the tax dollars I'm literally throwing away at public schools, which i do not use, back in order to educate my children as I see fit.  Dare I dream, dare I dream?

What do the Liberals substitute for brain cells?  Theirs obviously don't work.  If I can [b]choose[/b] to send my child to a private school, whether it is secular, Christian, Jewish, Islamic, Buddhist, etc., then the state (that's us) is not [b]establishing[/b] a "religion."  I can also still [b]choose[/b] public school.  On the contrary, if vouchers [u]excluded[/u] religiously based schools, that would be prohibiting the free exercise of religious beliefs.  As long as you allow the individual to choose, it seems to me you would be operating exactly as the First Amendment intends.

This is a hugh win! We send our kids to A private Christian school because their future is obviously very important to us. It has been quite a drain paying for both public (taxes) and private (expensive) schools. This thing should take off like a rocket now with GWB's support and a court win! Long live a real education.

My only question is: WHEN???  HOW???

I went to public school.  Got a better than average education.

My wife went to private christian school. Got an associates degree and makes a decent business on transcription. I can't believe some of the things they "left out". If it were left to some of these types of "religious" people we would still be in England and the Earth would still be flat.  She got stuck there because her older brother couldn't hack the social atmosphere of the public school, he is still an outcast and literally cleans bedpans.  

Her Oldest brother went to public school, he now works in computers making a mint.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a Christian, but education can go wrong anywhere.
