Say what you want about CFLs, but take out your 100W incandescent light bulb and replace it with this (rather large) 500-Watt equivalent (105w actual) CFL... Behold the light!

$30 each, but I'm tempted to get a couple for my garage....

I'd buy a few if they came down to $5 or so.

I run a couple of 300 watt incandescents in my kitchen. They're great bulbs. 130 volt instead of 120 so they don't get blown out by power surges.

I have some of the 200 watt daylight CFL and they work great, just 3 of them in a 24x36 building

I have (4) 300 Watt in my garage, and they are dang bright but huge. I should have bought the 500 Watt equivalent.

A good 300 watt incandescent is about 5900 Lumens, so this bulb actually is the equivalent of about 350 watts. That said, it is a lot more efficient than an incandescent, looks like about 65 watts per lumen.

Seriously, though, if you need this much light, the T8 shoplights are 5600 lumens for 64 watts (2X32W lamps), which is 87.5 Lumens per watt. Oh, and the lamps are about 2 dollars each, if not less and last 20000 hrs! That's the best option for efficiency.

Check out the lumen output. You most likely did, within a few percentage points.

My garage has two 100 Watt Bulbs for a 2 car garage, the lighting sucks and this will fix it.

I run a couple of those big bitches in my outdoor lights (sodium vapor/streetlight type).
Both of them combined use 1/2 the energy of 1 of the old school ones.
