Warner Bros. just re-released the original BBC TV mini-series of HGttG on DVD. It has a making of featurette, a recording of the original BBC radio program, a tribute to Douglas Adams, and other mirth. Well worth the fourty bucks at Suncoast... to those of us who "get" it.

ADDED:

I just now went to check and see if Suncoast still carries it and they LOWERED THE PRICE!!! I just bought my copy like two weeks ago and paid almost fourty bucks! and now it's twenty eight! they're getting a phone call tonight...

Have all five books, AND both the Dirk Gently books as well.  We lost a lot when we lost Douglas Adams...

Think a bit more modern....like, say, maybe a rave.... [:D]  That was a partial quote from an Exec who worked at Nintendo in the late 80's.  Pretty funny.

Yeah, we lost a fanatical gun-control supporter.

Oh well.  They were still fun books.  Do you know where your towel is?

Now you're talking!  I don't even want to think about how much time I wasted as a child sitting in front of our green-screen Tandy 1000 playing the Hitchhiker's guide, Bureaucracy, Zork, etc.

I pretty much thought the book was way overrated, compared, say to Catcher in the Rye.

I did notice on one episode of x-files, Fox goes into his motel room and it's room # 42. BHFD.

The Infocom HHGG game works, not The Book. Although a few years ago I did read a story about some guys in the UK who were building a "real" Guide. It looked wacky. Big color LCD tablet PC kind of thing always flashing "Don't Panic" in some huge font. Guess they ran out of info, or investors.

My favorite quote:

"There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

There is another theory which states that this has already happened."

I loved the first 3 HHGTTG books. However, it seemed like the quality began sliding in 4 and 5. I haven't read the Dirk Gently stuff yet. I should though.

Loved all of his books, despite the fact that he was British, gun-controlling, and to top it all off: a Mac user!

The old Infocom game from 1984 works under all versions of Windows, including Win XP Pro, as well as under PalmOS (using the Zork DOS emulator.
Anyway, my Palm IIIc does pretty much exactly what The Guide does.
