Hey Gang,
I got home tonight and my wife hands me a letter from Providian congratulating us for having our account being upgraded to a Chase credit card.

NOT!..We have had the Providian card for almost 5 years at 5.99% APR. Our new Upgraded Chase card has the Special rate of the Prime rate +11.99%..currently 16.74%.

I just paid off our balance and sent them a BIG FU E-mail...

Watch the fine print!!![:(!]

I cancelled my Providian card 2 months ago when they did that to me. The havew lost an ass-load of cc biz lately, and chase just bought a lot of their cc accounts.

Thanks for the heads up!!  By the way, does this notice come with the monthly statement or do I need to look out for a separate letter?  TIA!!!!

Crapola...I just checked my Providian statement and last months statement had that "special rate" on it I didn't notice as the monthly payment was the same...Mine was about 5.9% before..I won't say what it is now[:(!] BTW did your statement still come on the Providian letter head or Chase???  Looks like balance transfer time.

That really sucks!

I thought for once I had a good card with a great permanent rate.  Hopefully I'll get lucky, but I guess I better be watching for my letter to show up in the mail.

I have one question.

Do credit card companies borrow money at the Federal Funds Rate??

Try Umbrellabank.com.They have a points card that doesn't cost anything to have, and you don't have to keep a balance to get the points. It is only a one for one, and 9.99, but it is better than anything else I have seen.

My wife's first credit card was through them.  Once she got the letter, though, she sent in a check for her balance and a note saying please cancel. That was pretty slimy of them, but oh well...vote with your money.
