I think I already know the answer to this but....

Guy I know wants to trade around for some Beats by Dre model headphones.

It would be the iBeats or the Tours, I only like the in-ear models.

Worth the trade at all or total hype?

Gym use only, so they don't need to be great but they do need to take some abuse.

I like the look of the iBeats the best, anyone using these?

Think of them as you do Monster-branded cables.......

They are good, but not as good as their price.

See Etymotic Research for real quality and real vale.

That might be a deal breaker.

They would basically be free but I won't bother if they're gonna be dead in a week.

I sweat like a whore in church.

My wife has some Shures, (don't know the model but they're around $100,) she loves. She runs 6 miles, three times a week with no sweat issues. I have a set of Klipsch S4's that also function well during workouts.

Shure, Sennheier, Etymotic, etc. all make superior cans for less.

I have the Tours. I love them.

What I love most is flat cable. they NEVER tangle. Great sound.

Go to one of those.  Very happy with my Sennheisers.

Used in-canal headphones?

I had a pair of Tours. They constantly fell out of my ears (even with minor movement), regardless of which inner-ear piece I had on it. I tried all available sizes. They did sound nice, but were not worth the constant annoyance of them slipping out of my ears. I would suggest trying out a pair to see if they fit you and will stay in before getting some.

My wife loves skull candy ear buds

I did not like the effect they had on my head when I was jogging.  They created pressure in my ear canal that was highly annoying.

That said, they're decent and comfortable ear buds for other uses.

I just got some Bose iE2 headphones and purchased a Fiio 3 amplifier off of Amazon for $7.  So far the best in ear headphones I have ever heard.

They're new, still in the plastic wrap.

He gets free work related shit, I get free work related shit.

We would just be swapping free shit.

mark up is tremendous. I bought my girlfriend a set for Christmas for 1/2 off using Apple discount. She has the cans though, not the buds and honestly they do sound very nice. Worth the 120 bucks I spent? I dunno as I haven't really compared them to others but still not a terrible deal for my price. 299? Hell no.
