When you were a kid? Did you do it?
I wanted to be military, since my dad was. I'll retire from the AF in a few years, and don't regret my choices. |
Right where I am now. Currently at 21 years in the good ole USMC
railroad engineer
ETA: didn't pass physical-color deficiency with red/green recognition |
USMC, heart condition prevented that damn MEPS Dr from signing off for me. Would have just hit my 20 years had I gotten in.
Instead, found work as a defense contractor and deployed anyway. |
Fucked if I know. I remember being 10 or so and having a family member ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up... I thought to myself: "Lady, I'm a kid. You expect me to be making smart career decisions when I'm 10 years old?!"

Pilot.
Learned to fly, started working in the industry, didn't feel like having 9 roommates and eating ramen, continued working in the industry and flying for my own enjoyment. Then I grew up, changed careers, got married, got married pilots disease, intend to resume flying again soon. It was fun. |
As old as I am I still don't know.
I seriously should start thinking about that growing up shit. |
Quoted: Fly jets. Vision wasn't good enough though. Same here, turned out Air Force didn't like 20/400 vision. |
Hit man.
Playboy photographer. Jet pilot. I still don't know what I want to be. |

Never wanted to grow up but time does indeed pass.
On the verge of being there I sustained a major injury on a motorcycle. When I got better I joined the Navy. Had a whole pile of fun. I got out. I never really wanted to 'be' anything. I was content to just kinda see where life took me. Not lazy or anything I always got the job done on time and below budget so to speak. Next thing you know grandkids come along and you are old. <shrug> |
Garbage Man.......
Didn't do it. Would have made a fortune in the waste management industry |
I wanted to be a Marine Force Recon Sniper. I ended up in the Army, bad choice on my part.
I wanted to be in the military blowing shit up. I ship for Army basic in a month, so after I fill my contract obligations, my life will pretty much be downhill from there, after all, what do you do when you achieve the "Coolest thing ever" that your 8yr old self imagined?
It's a question I ask myself whenever I lack motivation: "Would the 8yr old version of me think I'm a cool?" I answer yes more often than not and it gives me great satisfaction to know I'm the man I always wanted to be. |
A worthless bum sucking off the public tit.
Didn't work out though, I grew up and became a working stiff like most of you. Living the dream! |
Be in a tank crew ... gunner likely.
The Army recruiter was closed when I went by. The Navy and Air Force weren't. The Navy cut me a better deal. |

I'm .mil, but I don't do the cool stuff. I'm just a drug dealer, but hey...I'm still here. |
Who grew up? Been working on phone cables for 40 years and still haven't grown up. Doubt I ever will. Of course when I was young, I wanted to be a cowboy, fireman, cop, fighter pilot, secret agent, army dude....you know....all the usual stuff. Funny how things work out.
When I was in grade school I wanted to be a cop like my dad.
When I got into high school and took a closer look at our standard of living I decided to get a business degree. |
I wanted to fly fighter jets. Since that couldn't happen, I wanted to be a lawyer.
I'm an Electrical contractor . It's funny what curves life throws us, and it's even more odd how we sometimes react. |
A pilot, just like my dad. He talked me out of THAT idea, and now I'm a firefighter/medic. Still would like to learn to fly one day, just not as a career.
Military pilot
No due to deuteranopia(a type of color blindness)
When I was young and idealistic: Naval Aviator
When I knew what money meant: Investment Banker Now I wish I had kept my idealism. |
A jedi knight.
It really sucks I couldn't travel to a galaxy far, far away. |
Quoted: Fly jets. Vision wasn't good enough though. This is what I wanted as well. |
Test rider for a motorcycle magazine.
I've been an insurance agent for over 30 years... |

Quoted: Be in the military. (All that you be!) I am. And it's no where near as awesome as I expected. Are you finally getting attention? |
I wanted to be Batman. I've obviously stopped telling people that now...............
..........I can't have people knowing my secret identity. |
Quoted:
I wanted to be a kid. For some reason it didn't work out. I wanted to grow up too fast, I did and I do regret that. |
Cop.
My Dad was a criminal and persuaded me against it. I've been working out recently to try and join. |
I wanted to be a railroader. I am and I love it. Now I want to be the best railroader. Ehhhh we'll see.

I knew even at a very young age that being an adult wasn't everything all the other kids were making it out to be. I liked it when my biggest worries were who I was going to play with and whether or not I'd like what mom made for dinner. |
Quoted:
Forest Ranger.. That was another aspiration of mine, I may still try when I retire...but I'm pretty broken at this point in life. Dunno what the PT standards are for them. |
