When you were a kid?  Did you do it?

I wanted to be military, since my dad was.  I'll retire from the AF in a few years, and don't regret my choices.

USMC, heart condition prevented that damn MEPS Dr from signing off for me. Would have just hit my 20 years had I gotten in.
Instead, found work as a defense contractor and deployed anyway.

Fucked if I know. I remember being 10 or so and having a family member ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up... I thought to myself: "Lady, I'm a kid. You expect me to be making smart career decisions when I'm 10 years old?!"

Pilot.

Learned to fly, started working in the industry, didn't feel like having 9 roommates and eating ramen, continued working in the industry and flying for my own enjoyment.

Then I grew up, changed careers, got married, got married pilots disease, intend to resume flying again soon.

It was fun.

Never wanted to grow up but time does indeed pass.

On the verge of being there I sustained a major injury on a motorcycle.
When I got better I joined the Navy. Had a whole pile of fun.
I got out.

I never really wanted to 'be' anything. I was content to just kinda see where life took me. Not lazy or anything I always got the job done on time and below budget so to speak.
Next thing you know grandkids come along and you are old. <shrug>

I wanted to be in the military blowing shit up. I ship for Army basic in a month, so after I fill my contract obligations, my life will pretty much be downhill from there, after all, what do you do when you achieve the "Coolest thing ever" that your 8yr old self imagined?

It's a question I ask myself whenever I lack motivation: "Would the 8yr old version of me think I'm a cool?" I answer yes more often than not and it gives me great satisfaction to know I'm the man I always wanted to be.

Not me, my 8 year old self would call me a pussy.  I'm .mil, but I don't do the cool stuff.  I'm just a drug dealer, but hey...I'm still here.

Who grew up?  Been working on phone cables for 40 years and still haven't grown up.  Doubt I ever will.  Of course when I was young, I wanted to be a cowboy, fireman, cop, fighter pilot, secret agent, army dude....you know....all the usual stuff.  Funny how things work out.

I wanted to fly fighter jets.  Since that couldn't happen, I wanted to be a lawyer.

I knew even at a very young age that being an adult wasn't everything all the other kids were making it out to be.  I liked it when my biggest worries were who I was going to play with and whether or not I'd like what mom made for dinner.
