Well, just a little PSA: no matter your level of training, no matter your experience or your self-assessed competency, you can not allow yourself to become either complacent or careless around a firearm.

Paradoxically, the more training, experience, and confidence you have with firearms the more apt you will be to become complacent around them. If you religiously practice safe handling, then chances are that complacency usually won't get anyone hurt or killed. Mechanically going through the motions of safe handling just by force of habit isn't always enough though.

That said, my sympathies for the injured and all parties involved.

When people handle guns this way, with complete disregard for common sense and gun safety, there are usually two outcomes - either they shoot themselves or they manage to kill some child 2 miles away.

This time the guilty party suffered the consequences, simple cause and effect, nothing to feel sad about.
