Are you a God hating commie? If so the fact that he comes from the conservative Christian branch of the GOP might be a good reason for you to pull the romney lever instead and help flush the country down the progressives's shit hole.

Don't mind his social views. I actually agree a good deal with him in those respects. He's a big spender though and wants to keep us bogged down in these endless conflicts.

The economy is by far our biggest problem right now.

The ONLY downside to him is he's very, very much a Christian.  Why is that bad?  Beats the hell out of me.  ::shrug::

The bad thing about that is that even some Christians are willing to limit your freedoms.  I'm a Catholic, so I am part of the problem but why should the feds regulate marriage, abortion, education, or healthcare? *

Santorum may be my guy now, but he's a little too hardcore on a couple issues.

*Those are my issues and are not to be construed as anyone else's or even important at all.

The former is not good, and I agree with the latter...Arent all politicians spenders???

For arguments sake, wouldnt a strong anti illegal immigration policy be a smart fiscal policy? BOGO free?

The Christian Conservative doesnt scare me a bit. Religion, as long as it is friendly to America is not a problem issue for me. My problem with Lieberman was not his Judaism, it was his politics.

A Christian conservative would be a refreshing change from the widespread lack of morals and values we have seen in the last 50 years.

The problem is that he isn't the perfect candidate for some people.

I have heard nothing about him being anti gun, but I will admit I could be wrong.

I found this....

The Post reported
that he told a group of Fox News reporters, "Ron Paul is disgusting.”
Did he mean, you know, in general? I talked with his senior advisor
Hogan Gidley, who explained that Santorum was reacting to Paul’s attacks
on him, which are unmoored to any facts. On the Second Amendment, "He says Rick is anti-gun?!
Guess who is a an NRA member and who has an A-plus rating from the NRA?
Rick Santorum. Guess who doesn’t have an A-plus? Ron Paul.” Likewise,
Gidley says Paul’s attacks on Santorum for being pro-choice are
ludicrous. "Rick was asked about that. He said, ‘If I’m pro-choice,
you’re going to have a hard time finding anyone who is pro-life.’ ”

Obama approves your post.

Santorum is just what Obama needs to rally his discouraged base.

The press will love contrasting a Republican candidate who fits their stereotype perfectly...racist, hates gays, etc...against a black incumbent president.

Can't you see the headlines now?

You've gotta be kidding me.  Wait and see how he does in his home state of PA and you'll see what I mean.

I agree that he's intelligent and debates well.  However, on the social issues he will get killed.

Santorum has been on my short list from the beginning of the primary.  I still have a few weeks left until I can cast my vote, but I am leaning this way.  Not fully decided though because my vote will go to the alternative to Romney, and I like most in the field (excluding Huntsman, who is just a joke, and Paul, who again................joke)

But all in all if its a 2 way between Santorum and Romney, my vote is for Santorum, I dont like Romney.

Do you like firearms?

He doesn't.

Link please? If true, I cannot support him.
I found this....

The Post reported that he told a group of Fox News reporters, "Ron Paul is disgusting.” Did he mean, you know, in general? I talked with his senior advisor Hogan Gidley, who explained that Santorum was reacting to Paul’s attacks on him, which are unmoored to any facts. On the Second Amendment, "He says Rick is anti-gun?! Guess who is a an NRA member and who has an A-plus rating from the NRA? Rick Santorum. Guess who doesn’t have an A-plus? Ron Paul.” Likewise, Gidley says Paul’s attacks on Santorum for being pro-choice are ludicrous. "Rick was asked about that. He said, ‘If I’m pro-choice, you’re going to have a hard time finding anyone who is pro-life.’ ”

IIRC he jumped on the case of the girl in Florida I think that was on life support.

Seems like he inserted himself into the debate about whether or not to unplug her and just went over the top with it.

He jumped the shark on that and then got hammered in the next election.

I always figured the former was a big reason for the latter.

Maybe others can remember more about it.

Hucklebee is a Christian too, and I hate him.  A social conservative that is a fiscal liberal is a strong no-go.

Santorum has not been tight with our money in the past, but that is simply not an option now, and surely he has seen the light after watching Obama's spending habits for three years.

You know, in all honesty, we don't have the perfect candidate.  Santorum isn't it, Romney isn't it and Gingrich is a disaster.  I'm drawing at straws and hoping that Santorum has had a change in heart on spending.  He sounds like he has, but if history is any indicator, he's full of shit.

We let ourselves be dragged down into this, I guess this is what we get.

If you are going to vote for a candidate based largely on the fact that they hate homos, then you deserve to lose the election.

It's shocking how many on arfcom are so eager to embrace a fundamentalist.

He's a statist, just like Romeny, although perhaps less of one. I don't like either choice but perhaps he is the lesser of two evils.

We aren't going to fix this country with incremental moves and changes that amount to rounding errors, we need to radically decrease the size and scope of government in a way that is equal to, and inverse of, the sum of the great society and the new deal.

That being said, the GOP could nominate a butternut squash at this point and I'd still vote for it. I for one wish as a party we could eject the so called social conservative baggage, legislating morality is not a conservative stance, and certainly not one that is consistent with being the party of personal liberty and individual responsibility.

I think he's quite accurate.  Saying a candidate is "anti homosexual" means you likely have a losing candidate.  Like it or not most people don't look highly upon someone for that.  Take it however you will, it is the truth.

More religion isn't going to win office.  I want a candidate that supports more personal freedom and less spending.  What do you want?

Why, because one organization says so?  The organization that has its facts on its web site COMPLETELY wrong?  Read his voting record and then read what they have on their site about Santorum.

Where is there anything saying he's an anti-gun guy?  The only thing I found was the NAGR sent him a questionnaire about guns and he never returned it, so they just automatically labeled him an anti.  Other than that, I don't see where he has made any anti gun statements or moves.  He was a senator in PA and backed a turn coat republican (Arlin Specter) that's now a Dem.  Who could have seen that coming?  I think I can get past the fact that he backed Specter in an election since the guy was a stalwart in PA politics for decades and was also an R for 45 years...

The following was taken from a candidate fact site.
Santorum is a firm advocate of a citizen’s right to bear arms. He is also a staunch defender of gun manufacturers, and voted in favor of the 2005 Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (Bill S 397), which among others, prevents civil suits from being brought against gun manufacturers for criminal acts perpetrated using their weapons.

The GOP field this time is just plain terrible, the only person I may even have considered voting for is Pawlenty and his isn't running. Maybe Perry but he doesn't seem to have a chance. And if Ron Paul doesn't get his way he's going to run as an independent split the vote, and therefore Obama wins by default.
