"In 2002, Mitt Romney stated in a debate that he supported the tough gun laws in Massachusetts and that he believed they help protect us and keep us safe. He vowed not to chip away at those laws. After being elected Governor, Romney fulfilled this commitment by signing a state-wide continuation of the assault weapons ban. He noted that such weapons were made for killing only and have no place in Massachusetts."

I honestly believe the reason we see so little here, form the GOP faithful, against Mitt, is because y'all (you know who you are) know how bad he is but also know you're going to end up supporting him, and as such, you're afraid to denounce him now because you know you'll support him later.

Mitt scares me far, far worse than Ron Paul, and many, if not most, of the folks here on this baord will vote for him. You know who you are.

If Mitt had bad hair and no appeal to the middle-of-the-road voter, y'all would denounce him worse than Ron Paul. You know it, too.

Romney is a politician like any other.  I don't think he has an agenda against guns, but I also don't think he's 'for' them either.  It's just another issue to him.  Clearly, the overwhelmingly (D) legislature and constituancy of MA wanted some gun control.  Surprise, a politician takes an easy path to glory and love of the voters.  With respect to gun control, Romney will have to be watches closely if he wins.

Removal of Obama (and his administration) is the primary objective in the '12 election.  Gun control is off the legislative radar.  Don't allow a judicial backdoor by allowing Obama a shot at more activist lefty judges.  Some of you younger dudes would have lost your collective minds in the Clinton years, and would have jumped off a cliff in '68 (well before my time).

If Obummer gets re-elected....it's the end of this nation.

You're wrong. You keep repeating that if you want, but if we put a Romney in office, we won't have a nation left in 4 years to fix in another election, and even if we did, we would never, ever, EVER see another POTUS more conservative than Romney, because the GOP will have figured out that they can grab the fence-sitters without losing the true conservatives.

Paul concerns me more than Romney, but I won't vote for either one of them in the primary... and I will vote for either one of them in the general against Obama, should one of them win the nomination.  This election is first and foremost about the USSC makeup for the next several decades (potentially), more than anything else, and I belive either one (yes, even Mitt) would be better in that regard than Obama, though not better than others who are still in the running.

I respect you and understand where you're coming from, but please understand: I will not vote for Romney. I do not believe 4 years of him would leave us with a USSC in any sort of decent shape because I do not believe we can survive as a nation, rendering USSC worries moot.

Calm down, no one is "putting Romney up" other than Romney.  He's got a boatload of money and his friends have even more.  He can afford the organization and the television time.  He's also ran before and he knows the ropes and his strategy this time around appears to be excellent.

But not one single vote has been cast yet.  You've got your panties in a wad over polling, and polling a caucus accurately is nearly impossible.

Romney will be in the race no matter how he does in Iowa because he's got the money to keep going, as does Perry.  All the Iowa caucus will do is eliminate those without the funds to continue.

Then you get to stick your head in the sand and pretend that you wont have to adhere to the regulations, hardships, direct laws or assorted other hardships that a lame duck Obama will likely produce.

The truth is that America likes its socialism, and it's not going away anytime soon.  However you have the ability to impact the issue of 'how much [socialism] is right'.  You get to vote for your choice:

1) Redistributive and social justice based economic and social policy

2) Economic and social policies grounded in the private sector with an eye toward budgetary restraints (I fucking hope)

We know where Obama stands, and we like to think our Republican overlords will actually work towards the 2nd line item.  One thing's for sure though, there is no reset to 1840 button.  You have wildly underestimated the number of Americans that want entitlements as long as someone else pays for them.  They are the primary target of the Democratic campaign machine.

Remember Harriet Miers?  How much luck did Bush have getting his pet lawyer into the Supreme Court?  If Romney wins he'll have the same problem.  He'll need the good will of the Republican controlled House and, hopefully, the Republican controlled Senate.  He won't get it appointing liberal justices.  What he'll get is blocked, not only on that nominee, but on his other agenda items as well.

The only way Mitt as POTUS will get a liberal SCOTUS nominee in place is if he's given a Democrat controlled House and Senate, and it will be up to us to prevent that from happening.
