BRISBANE, Australia – Scientists have discovered the world's first hybrid sharks in Australian waters, with multiple generations of the new creature found along the nation's east coast. Scientists say the discovery of interbred sharks could signal the presence of new "tropical" sharks in waters as far south as Sydney, The Australian reported. Right, because there has never, ever been any type of interspecies breeding in the history of the world before this.
I'm amazed that some of these "scientists" can keep a straight face when they say these things, although this could be an example of the Media twisting the information to suit their agenda. |

Meh.
Australia has more critters that can kill you than any other place on the planet. One more is no big deal. |
|
Fifty-seven of the marine animals were found along a 1,243-mile (2,000-km) stretch between northern New South Wales and far north Queensland, with Ovenden calling the discovery "unprecedented."

Sharks have been adapting fro some time now. Many sharks native to the US are being found in fresher and colder water than ever thought possible. Quite an amazing creature. I will start to worry if the Bull shark ever comes to live in Lake Superior!

What caliber for hybrid sharks? Only HoverBears can vanquish Hybrid Sharks. |

University of Queensland research scientist Jess Morgan said hybridization was common in plants and relatively common among fish because of their external fertilization. "They just release their eggs and sperm into the water column," she said. Not very exciting |

If it ain't a Bull, I ain't worried about it. True dat |

They get great mileage, but the upfront costs are fairly prohibitive.

I will worry about them when they grow wings and fly. Until then, no worries.... |

"[But] sharks physically mate, which is usually a good way to make sure you don't hybridize with the wrong species."
Obviously this guy didn't see the "Alien brothel" thread here. |

You'd think that scientists would learn that association does not imply causation...
They're 2 species of blacktips interbreeding,it's HARDLY as if there were 57 great white hammerthreshers suddenly found. Sheesh. My cockatiel just pooped on my shoulder...gotta be global warming... |

The new shark is a hybrid of the genetically distinct Australian blacktip, whose range extends north from Brisbane, and the larger common blacktip found in southeastern coastal waters.
