Yes he did. He was totally prepared to get himself and the recruit into the safe spot, wherever that might be.

That safety trench is well designed. Any spot a grenade might land, you can find safety around a corner.

More baseball...less soccer...and you don't have those problems.

That said...man we had some unathletic, pansy throwing guys in our Army, too

My roommate literally couldn't make the first qual throw in EIB (35m) b/c he couldn't get it far enough...he didn't play baseball, either.

And yeah...kudos to the drill for pulling his guy in. Dude definitely froze. I'm assuming the Chinese give safety briefs on what to do

Quick thinking on the part of that Instructor.

When I went through Basic Training in 1989 we had an idiot drop the spoon and cook the grenade off for about a second before throwing it. The Drill Sgt. was ready to beat his ass. The guy was a complete screw up and that was just one of his many notorious fuck ups.

My problem was I always threw a baseball kind of side armed.

The grenade range was not kind to me.
