I swear by the standard issue Weber because that's what my dad's used since before I was born.

Heard nothing but good stuff about the green egg though, and it does seem to have lots of accessories.

I am on my 3rd Weber but the Steel Keg looks like it's well thought out, and has a really good seal. Critical for low and slow cooking. Bottle opener in the handle for crying out loud!

Got a Weber 'gifted' to us this past fall.
Looking forward to putting it together in the spring an cooking up a storm with it.

Getting tired of grilling with propane, but I hear that the Weber is quite user friendly and bonding with friends over several beers while waiting for the thing to get up to cooking temperature is most beneficial.

So I've heard.

Love my keg.  I can do anything from low and slow to fast HOT grilling.

I was going to pull the trigger on a Big Green Egg but wife unit hated the color.

I found a Primo smoker in black which is just as awesome - actually prefer the oval size for ribs and brisket.  My 2 neighbors have them now also.

BGE, Primo or Steel Keg are all good to go.

I think you need to have both.

Sometimes you just want a quick burger or some dogs, propane is handy.

When you're cooking more food, or feel like taking the time, charcoal is great.



Plus by having both, you increase your chances of not being out of both gas and coals.

Understand your point, and thanks for the input. We cook over a propane grill 3-4 times a week in the fair weather months. When camping we always cook over a wood fired grill, and that is most flavourful when it comes to thicker cuts of meat. I've always found charcoal grills a bit messy and hard to tame, but if done right the flavour can't be topped.


Propane seems just too easy to cook with.

I have a BGE and have almost entirely stopped using my range on the oven.  When the Bubba Keg (Big Steel Keg verson-1) came out, I was HIGHLY skeptical.  They've made some major improvements and it looks to be a pretty well thought out design now.  



Not having cooked on a BSK, however, I do have concerns about it's ability to regulate and maintain temps like my BGE.  With the BGE, once I get the temp dialed in where I want it, the thermal mass of the ceramic does a fantastic job of keeping the temp exactly where I put it, for as long as I need it.  Also due to the thermal mass, I'm willing to bet I use less charcoal to wasted heat escaping through the walls... but, I honestly have no idea how well insulated the BSK is.  



One of the major advantages the BSK has over the BGE, though, is durability.  The BGE will never rust on you, but it is ceramic and if you tip it over it's pretty much done. If you plan on hauling it around, don't even consider the BGE.

Abuse the hell out of them and they are stored outdoors.

I also own their chimney charcoal starter, beats the cheap Chi-com built one hands down.  The Weber chimney starter holds double the amount of charcoal, and starts the charcoal much faster than the cheap Chi-com starters.

Multiple 23 Pound Turkey
20 Pounds of Prime rib - multiple times for quite a few dinner parties
Multiple USDA prime steaks, bone-in ribeye, porterhouse, fillet..etc.
Multiple beer can chicken, campfire chicken...etc.
Racks and racks of baby back ribs
Multiple briskets and pull pork

I would vote:

WEBER

I would eventually buy a Big Green Egg, mainly for smoking, but not before I buy the Weber Gold 26.75" grill.

One thing I love about Weber, the grill and smokey can share accessories, that is, I can put the 22" dome on a 22" Grill for cooking beer can chicken.

BTW, same as previous posters, ever since I has the Webers, I never used my convection oven for meat preparations.
I do wish they carry heavy duty stainless steel grate, but then, a friend of mine made me a pair with 1/4 Inch stainless steel rods, love them.

The problem with weber ie the welds for the leg brackets rust and fall off. Rest of the grill looks grear. I see them in the trash and pick them up. I made a stand with 4 circles to set them in a row and another with 2. I have those filled plus another 2 or 3 a spares. All 22 inch so far never ran into a 18.5

I've heard very good things about the Primo grills.  My boss has a Kamodo Joe and swears it's the best thing ever.  It comes with a better stand than the BGE and is cheaper.

I don't have one myself, but I hear the Hastybake oven has quite a following.

I've seen one, they look functional and well built, but I am not sure I am ready for a $1000 charcoal grill.  I stick with the $10 55 gal drum with a $12 wal-mart grate and various hardware store parts to control the air flow and temperature.

Homemade, made the first one out of a cooking pot, the second out of a propane tank, filled with water to displace any fumes, cut in half with a torch made carry handle and grate rack. drill holes in the bottom for air, finished with black stove polish. Handy for long range days.
