I'm looking for a .50 CAL snipper riffle (if you wanna call it that). So far, I'm thinking on buying a bolt action, single shot Armilite 50 cal.

I really don't care too much about size or weight of the riffle, I'm just looking for something really acurate in .50 cal.

Suggestions and comments please...  [sniper]

You mean a "counter sniper defensive rifle"?

Try asking on www.biggerhammer.net on the Barrett board.

Armalite will set you back $2500 (and you need a bipod and optics)

State Arms will set you back $1800 (and you need optics)

Optics are expensive--MINIMUM for the .50 is a Tasco SS at about $300.

If you got the cash, you may want to check out the following link as I am sure they have what you are looking for:

Smartass mode on.  What is a snipper riffle?  Is that a sniper rifle with a pair of scissors on it, to snip things with?  I don't know what riffle is.  Smartass mode off.  Don't get upset, just teasing. [:D]

In that price range, I'd go with the LAR Grizzly (www.largrizzly.com) over the AR-50. Smaller, lighter, but has a longer barrel.

I recently bought a LAR grizzly.  This rifle is awesome!  I looked into all of the 50's.  I went with the grizzly because LAR had them on sale for $2099. I got the parkerized gun for an extra hundred bucks.  I have a tasco ss in 20X on her.  Finally got a 50!

BTW, The fine folks at Armalite have donated an AR-50 to the Fifty Caliber Shooters Policy Institute (http://www.50cal-policy.org/) to raffle off in their next fund raiser. $25 to enter. The entry form isn't on the website yet, but keep checking. In the past two raffles they given away a Barrett M82 semiauto and a TNW/Browning M2HB belt fed semiauto. [:D] But, not to me. [:(]

Most excellent. Does it basically look like the pics in their ads?

Haven't got a clue. It is the Navy model with the removable buttstock. My dealer called and advised he had three and I bought one. I was kicking around the idea of a Barrett 82A1 but didn't want to wait 6-8 months will all the rumors of class 3 redesignation. Also I didn't want a rifle that weighs as much as my girlfriends luggage. Not that the McMillian will be light. In addition, I felt the bolt action would be more accurate than the semi and didn't like the look of the Barrett 99.

One of the most impressive things I saw at the Shot Show this year was Christensen Arms carbon fiber 50 BMG. Around 19 lbs.

I knew I would get a response if I put "Snipper Riffle" in the thread. I got a laugh outa some of the jokes, but I won't name any names for those that weren't funny at all (or I'm too dumb to understand; other or the one [:\] ).

Lots of suggestions, now I have to rethink what I thought (bastards!). Keep `em comming if you got any more, and I really appreciate(sp) the URLs, they help alot (I like to look at the pretty pictures [:D] ).
