I'll be getting a new Doberman from Germany in a month. Male with potential to be around 110 lbs. Both sire and dam are large dogs. Color is black and rust.

Need to name him something out of the ordinary.

I welcome any suggestions. HW

yeah, like hitler or rommel.
, that way not only could your pet be used for intimidation, but also just the name alone.

He'll be 8 weeks old when I get him.

Owning a dog is not "pointless" and responsable dog owners don't allow there pet to be a "child mauler"

Zyklon-B? Himmler? Panzer? Sturm Gehwer?

I hope 'Jaeger' (something or other) doesn't live in a Jewish community.

It does, not that my German is up to par. Kidding around mode aside, I kind of like Sturm Gehwer (assault rifle). But, it's not my pup.

I pulled this Screen Name from another post on dogs. He stuck me as a real dog lover.

It seemed like a good name for a Dobie

As for myself, I name my dogs after things or people that have been good or kind or helpful to me.

Did a search under "Dog Names" came up with 5 pages back to 9/01 it was not there,if any of you know how to research the "archives" Im sure you'd find it there. Its really worth it,it was a great thread, with lots'a'response.

If you have the sense of humor to pull it off, I'd suggest "kitty". If he's going to be a "serious" assault doggie, I'd suggest something monosyllabic that can be spoken really fast, like "Hans" or "Fritz". This could be helpful during training too. ==Bob

Now that you ask I looked it up (couldn't find the proper pronunciation). Literal translation seems to be "storm rifle" but other acceptable meanings seem to be "assault rifle". Either way, one interpretation or the other seems pretty cool. Oh yeah, and I guess it's one word "Sturmgewehr"... like I said, my German isn't that great. And if you have a 110 lbs dobie, who's going to nit-pick you on it. [:)]

Name him Jesus

A burglar enters a home and is greeted by "Jesus is watching!"
He shines his flashlight around and finds no one.
He takes another step to hear "Jesus is watching you."
This time he shines the light to discover a parrot.
He asks, "Was that you talking ?"
The parrot answers "Yes."
The burglar asks, "What is your name?"
The parrot replies, "Clarence."
The burglar asks, "What idiot named you Clarence?"
The parrot replies, "The same idiot that named the Doberman Jesus."

Yes, an easy call name is a blessing when you need the dog to react quickly.
Our German Rotts are Dresden von Schnellfeuer, (Dresden of Fast Fire, call name Drezz), Kruppstahl Schattenjaeger, (Krupp Steel Shadowhunter, call name Krupp), Mauser Tanzenbaer,(Mauser Dancing Bear, call name Maus), and Fraulein Luger,(Luger). The registration names have to be rather complex to prevent duplication, but the call names have to be fast.
I suggest very early and continuous training, as a large assault dog can be a real handful later.
Yours has the pistol grip, collapsible butt stock, flash hider, and will have a tendency to go full auto, like ours, I suspect. [:D]

Call him "Baron Von Richtoven" (or however you spell it) and call him "Baron" for short..   The long name sounds like German aristocracy and the name [b]"Baron"[b] is Strong and noble... [beer]

No, but the genetics is there.
Krupp and Dresden are my breeding pair, and have many Schutz III rated ancestors.
The working dog talent is there.
They are quite instinctive about guarding, protecting, and bite work.
Mauser and Luger are from their first litter, and also exhibit a lot of talent.
We stayed with obedience training, as the dogs have guarded since they were tiny pups.
Pretty cute hearing an 8 week old bearlet give a warning growl when someone strange walks near his kennel, lol.

"Jaeger" (Hunter) oder "Fallschirmjaeger" (paratrooper).  j/k on the last one.

jaeger sounds somewhat like "yay-ger" when pronouced by krauts.
