I just ordered a model 29 "compact" 10 mm...and someone asked me what I will do when the 10mm round is discontinued...like the 38 super auto a few years back.  Will the 29 convert to a 45 with a barrel, spring change and magazine change???? The external dimentions are the same.  Thanks

I don't think it will change. The 10mm case head is dimensionally different than the .45! The slides are different. As far as the 10mm getting discontinued, there are still plenty of firearms as well as ammo companies loading for it. I wouldn't be too concerned about ammo drying up in the near future. If you are concerned get into reloading. The 10mm is one of the best auto cartridges out there. A lot of people still shoot the supposedly obsolete .38 Super and are not worried about the fact that some think it antiquated. I myself shoot a lot "bastard" calibers.

Buy a bunch of ammo to keep on hand for your "handful".

In answer to your question: no won't work. But, good news, a fullsize preban G20 mag will work in that pistol...

Thanks for the info...just got a great deal on this "compact" @ $465.00 and I can't pass it up.  I love the glock...have a 23 and 27 which partner up real well with an AR and Bullpup.   I was looking for more.."punch".  Kinda like the "Tim the Toolman" mentality..I don't think Ill ever grow up. I was checking the thread on favorite handguns to carry...didn't see a one one the 29.  Does anyone have any experience with this particular gun...Did I just buy a mistake???[:D]

I own many Glocks, however I have yet to purchase a 10mm.  I have shot several at a shooting range when a Glock rep was there and I loved em.  It's like Ted Nugent said when asked what his favorite gun is, "A Glock 10mm with lots of bullets".

My local gun shop has this same Glock 29 for $550.00.  I guess you had got a good deal.  I was thinking about buying it, but currently have a G22.  I do not wish to add any more caliber's to my cabinet at this time.  I am currently looking for a G27.  I just picked up a used G23, so the G27 will have to wait until I get more funds.

I used to have a Colt Delta Elite in 10mm.  Nice round, but my Colt wouldn't function, so I swapped it for a Springfield Armory and some cash (Springfield worked mint, right from the box).

I imagine that the 10mm in a subcompact, gives quite a kick.

Enjoy your G29 and if I was a betting man, I would bet you will be getting a G20 some time soon.

45 guys are the worst "mouth of doom" for the 10mm. Dont buy into it, the 10 is here to stay.

If I could handle the recoil as easily as a 9mm I would use it, but shot-to-shot recovery is a lot easyier for my with a G19.

OSA..when you get the 27, I recommend the +1 magazine extention as it gives you something to grip.  Recoil is tolerable with +p 155 stuff but hard to keep them in 5x target.  Thought the 29 would be just step up from the 40.  I used to carry Colt Python 357 in my young cop days...with a Charter Arms bulldog 44 as a backup..Jeez there is nothing like +p+ 125 Grain Remington jhp.  My department got the idea to qualify every officer with duty ammo instead of wadcutters..Less than 10% of the 550 officers could qualify...damn blast in darkened range (night time training) screwed up everyones vision.  I digress.  I hoping this 29 isn't that bad!

If you really are concerned about 10mm ammo availability, I believe Bar-sto was making .40 barrels for the G20, so you may want to ask them if they have any for the 29.

I *love* 10mm. I *love* Glocks. I *love* the subcompacts. But I wouldn't buy a G29 unless I was carrying a G20 at all times, and needed a mag-compatible backup.

Why? Because your 10mm, while being nice and powerful in the G20, is reduced to .40Short&Weak power from the short G29 barrel, but as a bonus, you get lots of extra muzzle blast and flash, and a thicker bulkier gun.

The problem is much less an issue with the .45 G30, as the round isn't as velocity-dependant for its effectiveness.

Just thought I'd mention this...
------------------------------------------------

Troy's information is incorrect about the short barrel of the Glock 29.  There's no significant loss of velocity with the subcompact 10mm.

Troy, I don't think the 100fps lost is gonna bring 10mm down to 40short&weak power, unless you use FBI loads.

As far as caliber changes, you would need to swap the upper assembly (slide, barrel, ETC), Ejector, and mags, but I wouldn't worry about it.

Why didn't ya get a 30 tho..... I got a 23# wolff spring in mine, and fire 45 super all the time 185 gr. bullet at 1400-1500fps, 230 at 1100, you just have to reload!

The 29 is not a subcompact in the same sense as a 27 to a 23. The 29 is just slightly smaller than the 23. As soon as the CA DOJ approves the 29, I'm going shopping.
