Went out this morning to find a headless rabbit in my yard. The rabbit itself was untouched, but the head was torn clean off. No dogs in the area that could catch a rabbit, much less take its head off. We have a good bit of coyote in the area, and very rarely, bobcat, but I wouldn't expect either of those to kill prey and not touch it afterwards. I've been wrong before, though.

Whatever it is came back tonight and tried to kill one of our cats, but it ran out of sight before my wife could get a look at it.

What kind of predator do I need to bait and kill?

Im going with bobcat also. Cats tend to eat the head and leave the rest alone. Ive seen this with bobcats and domesticated cats.

Juvenile Bigfoot. The need the rabbit head to play a primitive game similar to baseball.

Silly creatures haven't figured out strikes and balls yet though.

Chupacabra. You'll need a human sacrifice (must be willing).

May God be with you in your quest.

cat.  like kitty cat.  my friend's cat used to leave everything but the head, including the ears on the step each morning - providing food for it's master.

Might have been your cat.  My parent's cat beheaded rabbits en masse.  He loved to leave them on the doorstep.

Thats the work of a group of recent immigrants from the Five Points in New York.  They are some nasty lads to mix it up with.  They don't get on well with the natives.

Cat.

We had a cat that would do that all the time and leave the body on our doorstep.  One day I had to go underneath the porch to retrieve something, and found a "cemetary" with at least 12 rabbit and squirrel carcasses all lined up in a neat row and decapitated.
