I have been using SETI@home for just over 3 years now.  496 workunits and 15946 hours and counting!  I had been running it on a 333 Mhz K6-2 machine with 64 meg of ram.  The workunits were taking around 44 hours.  I'm now using a 1.4 Ghz Athlon Thunderbird with 256 meg of DDR ram on a 266 Mhz front-side bus motherboard.  Now the workunits take only 6.5 hours to complete!!  [bounce]

I was a user years ago and could never remember my password, and since I've changed my email... the account is lost forever.  

January I joined team Anandtech and have

Results Received  3156  
Total CPU Time  2.563 years  
Average CPU Time per work unit  7 hr 06 min 50.5 sec  
Average results received per day  19.73  
SETI@home user for: 3838 hr 06 min

I've since cut down two only 2 or 3 pc's a day.  I had about 13 running it at one time.  heh.

I would have done SETI, but united devices ([url]www.ud.com[/url]) is doing a similar project for cancer research.  I believe the cancer project to have more potential impact on mankind, and encourage you to look into it if you agree.

Ahhhh SETI....

We had a contractor that thought it was a really neat program.

He installed it on 6 our our production servers.  That made life very interesting.

He's gone now.  'snif.  He will NOT be missed.

There was quite a debate some time back regarding this supposed cancer research and who exactly would benefit from all that crunching... After reading all the information available at the time I stayed with SETI.
