Second most violent city in Canada, I think, after Saskatoon.

Probably not that bad compared to the worst American cities.

I'd walk around Winnipeg no problem. I worked in Detroit for 14 years.

Funny, across the river in Windsor they haven't had a murder in a city of 300,000 in over two years. I don't think Detroit could go two days.

Who or what is causing the problem? Gangs? Rabid moose?

The story quoted a bulletin sent to Air Canada employees that said:
"Instances of public intoxication, resulting in several downtown
locations being susceptible to crimes of violence and opportunity, have
been observed by local police.”

So they're saying that they are concerned about the flight crews getting all tanked up at the hoppin' downtown places and getting mugged when they leave the bars...

Being that their solution is to have them stay at hotels right by the airport, it seems to me that they're just looking for an excuse to stick them in cheap hotels right by the airport instead of the fun ones downtown that they have to take taxis to. "We're not doing this to cut down on expenses, we're doing it for your safety."
