ergen County police chief says no one is above the law, not even his wife.

Lodi Police Chief Vincent Caruso ordered an officer to ticket his wife after she double parked while dropping off their 5-year-old son at school.

Caruso told The Record of Woodland Park he didn't want her to get any special treatment because of who she is.

The chief paid the $54 ticket.

It's not the first time for Paula Caruso. The chief ordered another officer to ticket her two years ago after she forgot to move their vehicle for street cleaning.

There was a story about a cop a few years ago who realized he was speeding, stopped, and wrote himself a ticket.

I'm not kidding.

In a way, I kind of admire that.

Guy in my old department, who didn't write enough tickets to keep his Sergeant happy, decided to pen himself one for no seatbelt.

They not only ordered him to pay it, they rocked him with Insubordination, gave him either 3 or 5 days off without pay, and told him NEVER to be that fucked up again.

When I didn't write enough, I penned City Council a couple for parking on the wrong side of the road, blocking driveways (okay, it WAS his, but still)...

I just got dirty looks, and it was suggested those tickets might not 'want' to go to court...  Momma didn't raise any fools.

Is the quota for writing the tickets, or getting convictions?

Yeah, because a Police Officer ticketing his wife for double parking makes up for framing Granny and shooting her on her own porch. Hell, just a few more, and we can get the sins of Waco washed away.

I once took the Chiefs daughter to jail for theft. I later found out the integrity that man had, NONE! In the long run I should have called the Sup and let him make the decision, but at the time it felt awesome.

Probably quite a few. Lodi is very densely populated and has narrow streets. Traffic and parking are problems there.

I don't mind the professional perks of LE not getting tickets as long as it isn't abused.  There should be more leeway with LE individuals than having to worry about CYA.  Less and less do you get the 'good guy' verbal warning.

Transparent publicity stunt...

Tell the wife beforehand that you're going to have her ticketed, appear as the most honest police chief in the state.

Cheapest positive publicity you can buy.
