A federal judge has refused to block key parts of Alabama's new law on illegal immigration, including its requirement to check the immigration status of students.

U.S. District Judge Sharon Blackburn blocked some other parts of the law, which both supporters and critics say is the nation's toughest clampdown on illegal immigration by a state.

No. How can a judge strike down part of a law and keep the remainder intact? Is that even legal?

Until we elect Rick Perry I suppose, at which point our "hearts" will demand that we correct this terrible injustice...... I mean, how are the fucking home builders supposed to buy new Gulfstreams if they can't use cheap illegal labor? If that doesn't tug at your heart strings.....

I forget the term but yes. This law had the term that allows the rest of the law to stand if areas are struck down.
Severability or something like that.

Severability clause.

This is going to be interesting because there has been no training or guidance from the state on how LEO's are going to enforce this law.

We have had Dept training on it, notice I said Dept. no word from the state.
Funny thing is after the arrest no one  really knows how to get the Feds to deal with them.
Seems like the Feds won't pick  up the illegals unless you have over 25 ready to transport.

So the city/county has to pay for room and board until that magic number is reached.
Well thought out plan!!!

You guys have a monthly training program which is pretty sweet.

I know we are not going to start arresting them. We don't have the room or money to do it.

I imagine some Non-UTC's.

Yeah we're going to have another training session before we start acting on it ( if we ever really do).

Like you said, I can imagine some non UTCs being written and that's probably going to be the extent of it.
There's just no money to hold them, and the Feds don't want to help the states out.
Funny thing is these new state laws are pretty much a mirror of the federal laws.

FUCK NO! Several of my friends thought this was gonna be such a great thing.
Now we can all get back to work and make a decent wage again....ummm, no,
we are still knee deep in illegals, they are still working, even tho they where suppose to be unemployable after this "clamp" down.

The folks here who where in construction and making a good living a few years back are barely betting by these days.

I talked to some farmers on Sand Mtn yesterday and about 80% of the picking crews left the state yesterday.

Isn't that a bit north of where you work?  Passed through Sand Mountain a couple of weeks ago going to/from my dad's house.

Yes.

Farmers in Baldwin Co can't get the sweet potatoes out of the fields because all the illegals have left down there.

It will be interesting to see if any out of work citizens decide to go into the fields and earn some money.  My guess is they will lay on their backs and count the unemployment money instead.
