Seems like a standardized carbine rail with an extender to make it rifle-length. Dunno, maybe its a monolithic carbine upper with an extender? Looks kinda cool.

Nothing A2 about them (A2s have solid stocks and carry handles.) They're closer to M4s, but as someone stated, actually the C-8 or whatever the Dutch call their home built stuff.

I don't know if that is the reason the Dutch have their weapons on fire but that is how the Marine Corps does it. |

The Canucks came up with their own monolithic upper solution, much like the Colt 6940. Those appear to use those uppers or something very similar, and the rifle length uppers use a carbine monolothic upper + extension.
The guy with the A4ish rifle does not have a rear BUIS. He has an Aimpoint M4 and an Aimpoint Twist mount base on his upper. |

If they are lightweight profile they do not need the M4 cut to mount the M203. The M4 cut brings the diameter of the barrel down to the same as that of a LW profile. |

An ambidextrous safety selector switch and oversized magazine release button-well thought out it would seem. Originally, the rifles were flat-tops with standard furniture and Elcan optical sights. There were problems with a high-rate of malfunctions for a short time after the first deliveries of the rifles were made, but I suspect that was probably a magazine-related issue that was quickly solved.
Diemaco started selling Canadian M16s to the Netherlands back in the '90s. Colt received royalties, so it didn't make any difference to Colt whether those rifles were made in CT or Ontario. Like Milo5 stated so accurately above, buying from Canada seems more acceptable to the political sensitivities of European policy makers. Diemaco (now Colt Canada) makes some parts off and on for the US production line. IIRC, Diemaco had somewhat evolved from the now-defunct Canadian Arsenals, Ltd (which I think traced its lineage to Long Branch). I could be wrong about that, though. |

Sure they could ask Colt/FNH to make a C7 style rifle, but it would be easier just to ask Canada to make more of what they already mass produce. |
