This local motorcycle shop I found on Craigslist advertised tire changes for $25 if you bring it in off the bike.  It's a new shop and is trying to build up business.  So I took my 2006 CBR1000RR rear wheel and a new tire in there on Sept 1st and they changed the tire for me.  When I went to pick it up and found that the lip was bent and huge gouge on another part of the wheel.  It was obvious they used some metal lever or a screwdriver to pop the bead off the wheel and beat the shit out of it.

I told the "manager" they need to buy me a new wheel.  Turns out it's a fucking co-op shop and his mechanics are contractors and he said that I have to deal with the mechanic personally since he's not responsible for them.  

He wanted me to leave the wheel and tire there but there was no way I was going to do that.  He said he wouldn't let me leave without paying him, because it would come out of his pocket and not the mechanics pocket or some bullshit like that.  Normally, I would have walked out with my wheel, but even though I was pissed off I played nice and paid for it with every intention to come back by the following Friday.  I was pissed off and told him they better make good on it or they're going to lose  a LOT of business.  (all of their advertising is done through Craigslist, so multiple ads warning others to stay away wouldn't be good for them).

Well, Friday I was sick and then I was out of town and long story short I just now got around to calling the guy back tonight.  I was nice and just asked him if he was going to make good on the damage his shop did.  He said since I've waited so long, that I obviously didn't care much about the damage.    He also told me nobody owns the business because it's a co-op, and even said he doesn't make any money working there.  

Long story short, he went full retard and started yelling.  Told me I need to come down there and we can "deal" with it there.  It definitely came across as a threat, but fuck it, I'm going to fo tomorrow during lunch.  Fucker looks like a space cadet and you can hear the crazy in his voice.  And to top it off, he was wearing an HK t-shirt last time and I noticed a few other gun memorabilia there too.

Should be entertaining.  






UPDATE

So as I explained, I've been too busy to drive down to the shop.  Plus he kept jerking me around about whether or not the contractor would be there.  He did give me the contractors phone number, but it goes to voicemail every time I call and it's been too full to leave a message.  

So I finally just decided it wasn't worth pursuing anymore. My wheel is holding air and I can live with the dent.  I never expected a new wheel, but I at least wanted a refund and some money to buy touch up paint.  So instead of pursuing that, I wanted to warn others so I posted an ad on Craigslist earlier today warning potential customers about what they did to my wheel.

The douchebag must have finally seen it and called me a bit ago, just before midnight, no voicemail though.  

Then a few minutes later I got this in an email from him....



So they mess up my wheel and now have the audacity to call me a scammer.  A real winner this guy is.

Not sure how he's going to notify the public.  I'm pretty sure he only has my first name and cell phone number, but he might have asked for my last name when I scheduled the appointment.  If he does try something, wouldn't that be considered slander? My dad's best friend is a damn good lawyer and could at least put the fear of a lawsuit in him.

The dude just seems ignorant and mentally unstable. I should have trusted my first impression of him and not let them touch my wheel.

Let this be a lesson to everyone about what not to do.  I never handle things like this so poorly.  Just been too damn busy.

Exactly.  I have zero intention of causing any escalation and that's the last thing I want.  I hate drama, plus I know how bad my temper can get.  So I'm being as humble light-hearted as I can about it, hence this post.  But I'm bringing in a bill for a brand new wheel straight from the Honda dealership for $570 and we can go from there.

If you have to take up complaints with the tech that's the guy you should be paying as well.

(I change my own.) Does it hold air? Submerge it in a tub and look for bubbles at the bent spot. If so, then they're putting your life at risk with sloppy work. They could have scratched it removing a balance weight. At least remove your old tire yourself, that's easy. (Hint: Clamp in vise/ implode bead/ protect rim/ hacksaw carefully/ lever off/  bolt-cut bead.)

Personally, having gone through this type of issue before, look into submitting it to your insurance [you do carry comprehensive, don't you?] and let the insurance company get the $$ out of the shop..  It does you no good to get yourself arrested for disturbing the shop's peace...
