Got out of a cab on Lexington Avenue in NYC near Grand Central Station, looked down, and picked it up. Paid for cab fare and more. |

Over the course of fifteen miles on 54H (IIRC) in the Rockies, I found around 75' of logging chain in 3 pieces. Put ads in the paper but nobody ever claimed them. Still have two of them, 25 years later. Next best was a steel trailer ramp along I75. Only the one, but it works great for the big motorcycles.

Half full propane tank, 20LB style, with the old style valve.
Used the rest of the propane, then did a "trade in refill" at the local wally world and got a brand spankin new one. |

Middle of the night driving hone from work I came across three skids/flats/cages if live chickens...
There was a big poultry processing plant nearby. Having no need for 30+ live chickens I decided to set 'em free. Stupid birds didn't have a clue. They just stayed in their crates clucking like the pathetic losers they were. No.. I didn't choke any of 'em. |

Lately.....2 blue plastic K1 5 gal cans....1 was full.
Best ever.....2 new 3500# axles with tires, brakes, and springs......the box with the hangers and hardware had "FREE" wrote on the side....just sitting there....I knocked on the door....The older fellow wanted to build a trailer...never did....wanted to move car inside garage for winter....he had got it at an auction. Coolest....."Back to the Future" DeLorean (spell??) go cart w/o motor....but all the lights worked...the rims even looked right....

i've found a few boats in the desert... didn't haul them home.
spare change, jewlery and more than a few lost car keys in those magnetic "Hide A Key" pices of junk. various tools, the junk gets moved along or put in the junk tools box, the good stuff gets added to the regular tool boxes. had a frind who found a bra=ionze crescent wrench which was very cool, was non sparking for use in explosive atmospheres. not sure what one of those runs today. found a fill set of wheels from an Eagle sports car. the rims were ugly and chewed up, with no center caps and the tires were worn, but i had Costco pull the tires (no charge, not even for dosposal) and took the rims to recycling and got $80 for the aluminum.

Six foot fiberglass step ladder in like new condition. Still have it.
I can't imagine it fell off a truck and wouldn't have been beat to hell. I thought that somebody must have pulled it out to get to a spare for changing a flat and drove off without it. |

Found a Fluke multitester in a small tool box once. I actually saw it fall off a pickup that was turning off the road.
I picked it up and tried to chase them down, somebody was losing tools they work with. Couldn`t find em, looked in the box, found the Fluke. Still have it. Log chain once. When i was a kid, I found a green parachute once. The military used to train chopper pilots here abouts in the 60s and 70s, probably fell outta one. scruff |

Old singer treadle sewing machine with base, dragged it home with the metal wheels screeching the whole way. No way was I going to leave it for a minute for someone else to pick up! Built like a tank, runs like a dream.

110 quart cooler absolutely packed with camping gear. The Cooler had slid long the pavement and the bottom was chewed up, but the contents were in great shape.
A NICE sleeping bag portable DVD player with Friday 13th in it. spare AA batteries for above Cell phone charger ? collapsible water bladder. little butane stove that mounts directly to a 1# cylinder some cooking & eating utensils, including a tiny espresso maker and a hand coffee grinder solar shower bag other assorted stuff |

Chains, tie down straps, various tools. 2 life jackets a couple weeks back. When I was 18 I found a Gold flatware set (12 setting) in a leather bound case on Christmas morning just past a small intersection. There was no marks or any scratches on the leather so I imagine someone got a flat and pulled stuff out and forgot to put it back in. Brought it to the local PD and left it with them for a year. They called me and I went down and picked it up free and clear. Had it appraised, and was worth $5200! I was quite overjoyed!

Many years ago found two stainless steel milk cans, about 20 gallos each, alongside the road. Dad stopped and I got to balance them both on my knees for the hour it took us to get back home. My mom painted them red, white and blue for the 1976 Bi-Centennial celebration. Still have one of them and use it for an umbrella stand.

275 gallon oil tank, brand new, empty. Fell off the delivery truck and was sitting in the middle of the road about a mile from one of our shops at 0200 in the am. We grabbed a pick up and picked it up and stashed it at the shop.
coworker found out the shipper from a label on it. He bought it scratch and dent dirt cheap. lifejackets, screwdrivers, tip ups, panties, you know the usual. No I didn't pick up the panties for crying out loud. 
- friend found 5 buckets of dry wall mud (plus 3 more busted open) in the middle of the road. Either they came off a depot truck or out of the back of someone's plastic bed liner pickups truck. They're part of his garage and another friend's house. |

Over the years, I found a couple nice chains, a couple empty gas cans and a $20 bill. The 20 was the best since, at the time, I was walking to the parts store to get a starter for my truck that left me stranded.

I have found 30lb propane tank brand new standing upright on the side of the road.A tool box tray fool of tools.I live close to a road that see alot of oil field traffic.I have scored so many ice chests I have stopped counting.Some have alot of road rash some don't.They usually have sodas and beer in them.

When I was in college I was walking to the bank and found a $100 bill at the bus stop about 200 feet from the bank (16 years ago). I always see black tie downs never stop and pick them up. When I was driving through Amarillo I was driving a 24 foot box truck and saw a 6 foot fiberglass step ladder come off of a truck, I'm sure it got smashed. picked up a 4 foot piece of aluminum I (eye) beam, laying on the double yellow line in front of Home Depot at 41st and Sheridan in Tulsa, pulled in the parking lot and dodged traffic getting it, FIL was with me then, sold it for scrap. I picked up a smashed aluminum step ladder for scrap beside the road in Tulsa, drove past it 3 days before I remembered to stop and get it. Most recently a 5 gallon orange Igloo cooler (last 3 months).

Riding a motorcycle allows you to see all sorts of things you miss when in a cage (enclosed vehicle).
Ive gotten a few sockets and extensions as well as half of a "multi tool kit" which still had some screwdrivers, an air pressure gauge, and some other odds and ends in it. If I had one of those "grabbers" id have a truckload of perfectly good tie straps. Unfortunately I mainly highway commute and its not always feasable or safe to pull over and grab "freebies" |

At my old job I was the only service tech that covered a bi state area so I drove a lot every day and found tons of things on the side of the road. I will stop and check out anything because you never know. Some of the best/most memorable.
A brand new 92 piece Snap On socket set still in the box. 50 feet of heavy steel tow chain with hooks. 2 brand new in the box 5 gallon steel gas cans with built in funnels. A whole dresser drawer worth of socks and underware (left that there but the skid marks seemed minimal). Various small tools. The more interesting things were found during my hotel stays. Porn/cash/sex toys/drugs/etc. |

whole tool box with tools, unfortunitly I knew the owner and I just about threw out my back getting it in. he had taken it out of his pickup to put a 4 wheeler (broke) in and didnt have room, not many people drive that road and those that do are honest. he did give me a coke for giving it back and saving him a trip.

I pick up a few 20# propane tanks a month. Use whatevers left of the fuel in them, then throw them on craigslist for $10-15 per.
Found a nice hardwood coffee table. Me and the wif made a project out of refinishing it. Same with a dresser. Still use them both. Then the usual stuff posted here, tie downs, a few sets of logging/tow chains, etc. Also find an odd amount of car/truck rims around here. I'll save up a load of them and turn them in for scrap a couple times a year. |

Snap On tool bag, full of Tools. I spent 2 weeks trying to return them to the rightful owner, no luck. Great tools.
I found a Wallet with $33 in it once, returned it and got a $20 in exchange. Found a cell phone and returned it and got a thank you and a coffee at StarBucks. |

I found a Dewalt 12 volt drill once. Worked great. Ended up buying a charger and extra battery for about $75 bucks. My brother found a Yeti cooler($300 dollar plus) that had been bungi corded shut full of Coors light. Numerous life jackets and one broken fishing rod with a real nice Shimano bait casting reel.
