The "not very much effort" part is gonna be a problem.

I would suggest some tape oriented to opening her eyes to the fact that it's essential to devote some serious time and money to self-defense training & preparation.

If her work REQUIRES her going out at all hours, it's reasonable for her to make a written request that they pay some/all of the cost and give her some paid time for the purpose.

who might be interested in some self defense materials and training.  She comes and goes to her work place at all hours of the day and night, necessitated by her job.
Any ideas that I can just present quickly, that would not require very much extra effort on her part?

Have her read Paxton Quigleys "Armed and Female".  It will give her an idea what she needs to think about.

Not much effort?  So she's not really that interested in defending herself.... LOL

I would recommend Hapkido, Aikido or Jiu Jitsu classes.  Those are what most bouncers at bars take to quickly learn how to subdue unruly customers... they are also going to be the most effective in defending yourself against an attack.

Stand up fighting with a man, unless you are very well trained, isn't equitable.  Running is your first option but if that doesn't work, most struggles end up on the ground in a matter of minutes and that is where the above training would come in handy.

Unfortunately, you'll fight like you train.
I was telling MM this yesterday, that Martial Arts is an investment in yourself. There is no such thing as a two-week black belt, dedicate yourself into some sort of training or become proficient with a concealed carry firearm.
Like my Sensei always told me, "Black Belt, Black Gun"

Somethings you can teach her quickly are situational awareness and  how to and where to punch or kick. (Groin, knee, throat, solar plexus).

liberty...

With all due respect to our LEOs on the board, calling 911 won't help.  Police are generally there to investigate AFTER a crime has been committed.  If we're talking about her defending against assault, it would be over before the cops got there.

A couple general things that she needs to know:

* Be fully committed to your decision.  If you are going to fight your attacker, fight to the death.  If you are going to give in, don't resist.

* DO NOT LET THEM TAKE YOU TO A SECOND LOCATION.  If someone means to do you serious harm, they will often abduct a person and take them to a more private location where they have more control and less of an audience.  DO NOT LET THEM TAKE YOU TO A SECOND LOCATION.

* Your best opportunity for getting away is when they first attack you.  When someone first attacks you, they are unsure of how you will react and are generally nervous themselves.  This is the best time to catch them off guard.

* If someone tries to get into your car and make you drive to a second location, crash the car.  Make sure you always wear your seltbelt, too.

True

Riding a motorcycle is dangerous enough so I don't drink and ride.  I have done it in the past but it scared me enough that I will never do it again.

I had a guy tell me that a friend had been killed on a motorcycle. When I asked how it happened he told me that the guy was drinking and taking valium. Drinking and riding is bad enough but damn drinking, taking a depressant, and riding the guy must have been trying to kill himself.

Most of the motor cycle accidents that I have seen involved Harleys and alcohol.

Back to the self-defense

Buy her a copy of Jeff Cooper's "Principles of Personal Defense". This book is short, and seems to go a long way toward breaking the spell of "sheep" mindset. Paladin Press has it. The best 10 bucks you'll ever spend. Used Smith revolvers are dirt cheap at KY Imports.
