OK so the manual is no help, says to go to the website.

2008 Ram 1500 quad cab "sport" model package (VIN pops up as an SLT model) 4x4, 20" tires 5.7 V8 hemi MDS (runs on only 4 cyls to increase mpg when cruising under 55).  No idea on the rear axle gear ratio, and its not listed on the drivers side door tag; but it does say the GVWR is 6700lbs

Thing is,  when you go to the website http://www.dodge.com/towing/D/vehicle_to_weight.jsp and punch everything in (as best as I can figure how to do because I cant find a perfect match for all the figures) is says I can tow 5050LBS! Results-1 Which seems absurdly low.  BUT if you punch in info on a SMALLER truck (dakota) with a SMALLER engine (4.7l V8) its says that smaller combo can do 6691lbs. Results-2

So where to go for the real deal?

ETA: from the first google link:

Ram 1500 is available with three engines: a 215-hp 3.7-liter V6; a new 310-hp 4.7-liter V8; and a 345-hp 5.7-liter Hemi V8. The 310-hp V8 replaces a 235-hp 4.7. The V6 and 4.7 V8 are available with manual or automatic transmission; the Hemi has an automatic only. Ram's maximum towing capacity is 3400 lb with V6, 7300 with 4.7 V8, and 8750 with 5.7. ST, SXT, SLT, and top-line Laramie trims are offered. All Rams are available with rear-wheel drive or with 4-wheel drive that should not be left engaged on dry pavement. Optional for SLT and Laramie is all-wheel drive. The 4WD and AWD systems include a low-range gear for off-roading. Available safety features include ABS, antiskid system, and curtain side airbags. Also available are power-adjustable pedals, wireless cell phone link, DVD entertainment, and navigation system. Quad Cabs are available with power running boards.

Ask any oilfield hand.

That truck will tow anything. I have seen it.

Now towing safely, I would say 6000 to 7000 with equalizing hitch, sway control and trailer brakes.
The local Dodge dealer should be able to run a function 14 on your VIN and tell you.

Do you have a hitch?

Do you have a ball on the hitch?

I regularly tow a 7700 lb trailer with my 2005 Ram 1500 with the pre-mds 5.7 Hemi and it tows like a champ.

I think the max on the sticker is just shy of 10,000 lbs.
