The federal government is moving to crack down on a bizarre form of food-stamp fraud that's flushing away taxpayer dollars.
The scam is called "water dumping." It works as follows: Food stamp recipients use their benefits to purchase water bottles and from there promptly dump the water out and redeem the bottles for cash. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/08/24/federal-government-tries-to-stop-food-stamp-water-dumping-fraud/ |

I should believe that this opportunity these individuals have to do this is not the result of a taxpayer supported and guaranteed system, right?

What the hell! Around these parts the Paki convience stores give you $.50 on the dollar for your Obama bonus buck food coupons. No need buy something and then return it.

you only get like 5 cents a bottle.
the average 24 pack costs about $4.00 I'm not math wiz but... 5 x 24 = 120 or $1.20 You spend $4.00 of food stamp money to get a $1.20 in cash? In who's fucking mind does that make sense? |
|
So they're just getting back the 5 cent deposit? Seems like it would not be worth the effort.

Again, end welfare. |

It gets worse.
In Michigan, soda bottle/can deposit is 10¢ each. The leeches by a cases of the cheapest stuff, usually store brand cans, then them & their herd of welplings crack them open right in the parking lot. I watched it happen. The obese queen & her brood did right in the handicap parking space. They just dumped the soda right onto the pavement right near the store entrance. They didn't even have the courtesy to empty the cans into a drain. Ya, driving an Excalade too. |

You could sell you're "benefits at like 85% of the value for cash and make a shitload of money. Lets say you get $250 of food stamps, and sell them to someone for $200, that's better than getting like 30% of the value and having to go through the trouble of the whole water scheme... |

I originally heard about this in another thread. I thought it was a joke.

In who's fucking mind does that make sense? It makes perfect sense. $4.00 of worthless stamps turns into $1.20 in spendable cash. It is illegal to resell food purchased with food stamps, so they are making a profit legally. |

The simple act of finding someone willing to participate is more work than they are really willing to do, anyway. |

Water is free from a goddamn tap, food stamps have no business paying for fucking WATER.
|

If the government does that then the democrats are going to lose a lot of their voting base

Don't give them food stamps at all. If you want to feed people, distribute welfare-grade food from a government run warehouse. The present system practically begs to be abused.

There a lot better ways to make a buck without working. Coupon fraud is real easy, and can net a lot more money than $1.20. |

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Food stamps should be done away with completely. Instead, you get a weekly allotment of basic staples –– flour, sugar, butter, dry beans, peanut butter, cheese, in-season fruit and vegetables (or canned, whichever is cheaper), etc. You won't starve, but you won't love it either. And you'll actually have to learn how to freakin' cook for yourself.
My tax dollars going to buy steaks, frozen pizza, fancy bakery cakes, and bottled water is freakin' bullshit. |

Let's say $200 A case of water is $4 That's 50 cases of water, times $1.20 = $60 in cash, free and clear. You can get your smoke on for a day or two with $60, I'd imagine. |

I seen't it, first hand. |

I have heard the going rate on food stamp fraud is .50 on the dollar. But then loaning your card and pin out is riskier then "dumping" additionally it requires a buyer. This is a instant way to generate cash. Besides as others have pointed out, it isn't their money. That which we obtain too easily we esteem too lightly.
