OK I just made this recording from my backyard, I know it is a poor recording but you can hear the whatever I've never heard before.
This was taken just after dusk this evening, there are tons of crickets and such you can hear but what is the weird repeating whistle sound? Here is the weirdness. |

crickets? what what time is the sound? It is rather faint, but I can hear it it sounds like a whistle of some type that starts high and goes lower, it repeats several times about 3 seconds apart. Might need to turn up your speakers. |

Owl I'll bet you are right. I've never heard one like that. |

Yep that's it for sure, thanks a billion!
My dogs sure aren't happy about all the owl sounds coming from my laptop though. |

Go to Youtube, search "Bigfoot Sounds," and play some of the mysterious recordings they have there. Turn your speakers up, and watch your dogs go berzerk when they hear them! That's what mine does. |

Dickfer. Ok, this is so fucking predictable that it really needs to stop. I KNEW somebody had posted this before I clicked on the link. Call it HM's rule: Within 20 posts in any "What is this?" thread, somebody will invariably post Dickfer. |

Damn, I could barely hear it for all the damn crickets and cicadias.
Yep, it is a Screech Owl, they make a warbling sound. |

Western Screech Owl call B |

I believe it's a North American Hairless two thumbed Wombat, although I don't think the OP is being honest, that is the Wombats Spring mating call, clearly this wasn't recorded recently.

I watched a co-worker of mine call one in one night when we were working in the Cranberry Backcountry and had to camp overnight in the Wilderness to collect samples back in 98.
He would call and the Owl moved closer. He could do a great screech owl. Said the Owl was highly territorial and pissed another 'male' was intruding. Damn thing moved from way in the distance to the tree above him. It was amazing. I will hear one on occasion but I mainly hear Barred Owls. |

City folk I don't think so. Haven't seen one around here since I was a kid. |

Screetch owl. Plain ol' screetch owl. If you sit still and do the same whistle he'll fly up close to you. Just don't move.
