No, but being poor certainly doesn't help if you're depressed.

It can give you freedom to seek out stuff that makes you happy. Cannot buy it directly though.
I can't tell you how happy I am since I started making better money and I"m free to pursue my expensive interests. |
|
I used to say it can't buy happiness but I can make a down payment.
A hippy would say you don't own your possessions they own you. |

Anyone who thinks money can't buy them happiness is either retarded or has never had the opportunity to experience it.
If I didn't have money, I wouldn't be able to keep my A/C at 67° during 100°+ days. I wouldn't be able to have my German Shepherd that I love. I wouldn't be able to provide my wife with the things she needs in order to have a comfortable/enjoyable life. I wouldn't be able to buy the tools I need to enjoy my hobbies. I wouldn't be able to have any hobbies. And most importantly, I wouldn't be able to afford a membership to ARFCOM, because GD is an endless amount of entertainment and lulz. |

Money might not be able to buy happiness but it can buy distractions making your misery easier to swallow.
|

Not having financial worries would definitely ease depression/anxiety. Money can not buy happiness, but it sure can help to make happiness more likely.
|
|
Money isnt everything.
But it sure beats the hell outa whatever's in second place . |
|
Happiness is an internal state. You can't buy it. I've known some very rich people that would have traded wealth for happiness. Buying happiness with wealth is like taking drugs. It will give you a short time high that fades and then requires more and more to get the same feeling.

I'm willing to be a "Guinea pig" and take one for the team for the cause.
send me all your monies and I will honestly report, at 6 moth intervals, if it makes me happy or not |

Sure, buying things can and will make you temporarily happy; anybody who says otherwise is full of shit.
Now, fulfillment, peace, bliss, etc...these are states of being to aspire to, and physical possessions or lack thereof have nothing to do with any of it. Speed |

No, but it can damned sure rent it for a while.

Money can buy a wave runner. Have you ever seen a sad person on a wave runner?

Money doesn't buy happiness. It just improves your bargaining position.

There is nothing like having the comfort that should things go south, you have 50K sitting in your savings. Personally I am pretty frugal but it is also very cool that every now and then you can spend $2000 on something without using a credit card. Or asking the wife. |
|
No. I'm a low-maintenance person. I require one thing to be happy - love. I love to love and I love being loved. As long as I have that, I'm GTG. Sure, it would be nice to drive a car that doesn't fall apart...
|
|
Saying it doesn't is just to make people feel better for not having any.
However, you can choose to be miserable no matter how much money you have. |

a 1970 chevelle LS6 would make me happy
if i had money, i could buy a 1970 chevelle LS6 therefore, yes, money can buy happiness |
|
My wife and I were discussing this just the other day. Our first apartment after we were married was in an old house that had been subdivided, rent was $175/month. We only had one car, no TV/VCR, and a dilapidated stereo system from the '70s (8-tracks, FTW!).
And we both remember being blissfully happy. We agreed that we are much better off now and do not wish to return to those days of relative poverty. But the point is, we were happy –– even without much money. |
|
Its not the key to happiness, but yes having money certainly can be a large factor.

i said yes to skew your poll, but i really think no because happiness is choice, it's a state of mind. you can't buy it, and if you don't have it, it's because you've made a conscious or unconscious decision to avoid it. if you want happiness, seek it. don't cry depression or otherwise make excuses, own up, & take your mind of the negatives then focus on the positives. your glass is half empty if you see it that way, and you can choose to see it as 1/2 full just the same as you chose to see it 1/2 empty. this is my opinion, sorry if your shrink disagrees lol

Whomever coined that phrase was never dirt fucking poor.
Money doesn't do anything, but having it makes life easier. |
|
Hmmm. No in a philosophical sense. But having no money worries sure would eliminate much unhappiness.

|
no it cannot, but it can buy a metric fuckton of fun and idiocy
|
|
Money doesn't buy happiness is just a way of making oneself feel better about not having money.
Money buys you whatever you want, but material things cannot make a unhappy person into a happy person. Money doesn't enter into that equation at all, either way. I can say though, that lack of money = stress. |
