Meet the eight freshmen keeping Congress in session this summer
Eight House Republicans are earning their stripes this month while blocking President Obama from making recess appointments.
The rest of their House colleagues are home in their districts for the traditional August recess, but the group first-term lawmakers has pledged to hold pro-forma sessions in the lower chamber every three days for the remainder of the summer, effectively blocking the Democrat-controlled Senate from adjourning. The group of freshmen, which consists of Landry, Harris, and Reps. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.), Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.), Jeff Denham (R-Calif.), Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), Steve Stivers (R-Ohio), Allen West (R-Fla), and three-term Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), has agreed to each take one of the nine remaining days over the course of the summer to preside over the House.
I say good on them! I think I'll write 'em an email to say thank you. |

Recess appointments are always abused, we should get rid of them

I was reading the list thinking that Congressman West better be in this list and was relieved to find his name.
Are they actually accomplishing anything or just stopping O from making the appointment? Not a dig, just curious as it looks that way from the article. |

During a recent speech, didn't Obama demand that the Congress and Senate go home for the recess? I think he even went on to say he'll take care of the economy matters while their gone, because they couldn't get past arguing or some bullshit like that. Yes, I'm paraphrasing, my memory isn't perfect.
Kind of ironic though that he said this just days ago, while wanting to make 8 appointments during the recess. Good on those freshman Republicans to stick around. |

Fuck that coward. |
