The 200 yard target was also hit repeatedly by the ar based .50 BEOWULF. It shoots a 325 grain bullet at 1900FPS. You can shoot it at the 300 and 400 targets too, but it will start to rainbow and ya hafta watch the wind. Alexander Arms gets my thanks for letting me shoot it![beer]
Green 18- It's good to know you and your nephew made it home safe. The IPSC stuff was a BUMMER on your end.[:(] It was a pleasure to meet you guys though. Edit: Kaliburz, they are 1" steel plate with a extra 1" plate welded to the back of center. Some Nut Case was using API that may be the source of the burn marks and complete holes. |

Great Pictures, wish I would have stayed a few hours longer and seen that in person.
Nekkid80 I seen some hits from the 50 at the rental tent, that when the 200 yd. target was struck there was a bright flash on impact. Could that have been API. I hadn't noticed that on any other hits. And I watched a lot of them. (I was impressed with the 50's) Mooner625 |

Nah, that target was made of soft plate, the rest were hard plate. It also saw the most action, being the closest. The burn marks on it are from a bottle of tannerite that was taped to the front, not API. A few of the holes in that target were caused by ball ammo, I saw the first hole through it, FrankSquid did it with ball.

The holes with the golden halo effect are the API rounds. I see 8-10 on that last close-up picture. I wonder if anybody knows of any rounds that bounced back. That steel core dart can really flip back at ya every now and again.

There were a fair number of rounds laying in front of the targets, more on the farther targets than on the short one. I did find one steel penetrator on the back of that target, but I doubt it was done on purpose. Shooting at the range was limited to ball only. IIRC, some of the surplus .50 ball has a steel core... |

Thanks. Open to the public. $15 to shoot all day. Anything goes, owners are VERY pro-gun. They have a "don't ask, don't tell" policy. If you can get it there, you can shoot it. I've even seen full-auto tracer there. The "pit" is shooting down into a gravel pit. I like to toss pop cans down there, they flip 20 or so feet into the air when hit by an AR-15. I try to get there twice a month, but it's a 2 1/2 hour drive for me so sometimes it's only once a month! Av. |

Urodoji- Yes I agree that most of those are copper jacket splashes. If you look at 3 o'clock and go straight up from there I'm 100% sure there's three API impact marks. M1 incendary rounds are safest to shoot at steel and I would say API would be safer than ball. It's the steel cores in the ball that'll get you.

Could be. AP, API, APIT, Tracer, and Spotter-Tracer weren't allowed, but it's possible an AP or API without any markings could have slipped through.
