Yes folks... not just in college classrooms.

I had an instructor today, a self described good ol' boy, sing the praises of being a conservative.

A few minutes later, he was ranting about our collective bargaining rights being threatened and singing the praises of the TVA.

It is interesting that they have a huge problem with entitlement attitudes, and paying for handouts, unless it is their entitlements and handouts, then that is completely different.

Exactly. The instructor asked if anyone in the class was a Democrat. A few raised their hands. He told them that after a year on the job they would change their minds after seeing all of the handouts people get.

I've talked to farmers that are "conservative" to the bone - until you look up how much they take in subsidies.

My family's farmers were the same way.

Most people in America are sucking at the socialism teat and are unaware of it till it is brought to their attention. You most likely will incur ire from anyone that you point it out to. It has also been my observation that 99% of the country is ignorant as a stump about the constitution as well yet they rant about their rights. These same people cannot make it past the 1st and possbly the 2nd Amendments, nor do they understand the concept of unalienable rights. All of these things are what is really wrong with this nation. We used to be self reliant and and understood liberty. Now without exception we are almost all dependents of the system, and liberty is merely a word.

Liberty isn't a free apartment and stocked pantry. Liberty is life without safety nets, Liberty is the freedom to strike out on your own and either succeed or fail on your own, and to live with the rewards or consequences of your actions, on your own. Freedom comes at a price, and the price is often safety and security. Freedom means that if you want to ride your motorcycle in the rain with no helmet, who are we to stop you, freedom means that if you want to shoot enough dope to kill John Belushi and his less talented brother at the same time, who are we to stop you?

Freedom is not laying yourself prostrate before the man and begging him to make your life comfortable and easy, freedom is certainly not gleefully giving away rights in exchange for feel good laws that restrict far more innocent men and women than guilty.

Of course what do I know?
