Scan looks for traffic on all of the channels on the selected code.
According to the book, the monitor fuction alllows you to check for traffic on the current channel before transmitting. (I don't know why you'd need this, I'd think it would come through on the radio anyway.) IIRC Motorolla has instruction booklets for all their Talkabouts on their website - just gotta look around for them.

(I don't know why you'd need this, I'd think it would come through on the radio anyway.) Not if you're using a privacy tone (also called a "privacy code" or "PL tone"). There could be other people using the same channel, and you'd never heard them, unless thay happend to also be using the same tone as you are. The monitor button temporarily disables this "privacy tone-only function" so you'll hear anyone else on the channel, regardless of what tone they're using. |
