They're trying to commit to a faster/more-consistent development/release cycle. I upgraded, and I don't see anything new, other than the "app tabs" or whatever. I'll still use the bookmarks toolbar for that functionality.
ETA: Firefix 5 is still using 250+ MB of RAM to handle the 4 ARF tabs I currently have open.

Four had a memory leak and ghost instances for me. Had to reboot every few days or internet use came to near standstill. Glad to be rid of it. Haven't had enough time yet to tell if 5 has the same problem.

Firefox 4 was/is terrible, which pushed me into using Chrome. Chrome is much faster, and seems no more problematic than Firefox for me.

Nope, I clicked on the firefox icon and it said it was installing an upgrade, same as if it was going from 4.x to 4.x.1 but instead went to 5. |

Firefox, no problems. With you there. I have at least a dozen tabs open with FF 3.6.18 in Ubuntu and it is using about 200 MB RAM. Whoop-de-doo. What is the "correct" amount of RAM for a browser to use, anyway? I couldn't give less damn if FF4 used twice or even three times the RAM of FF 3.6.x. Unless I'm running multiple virtual machines, I never come close to filling my 4 GB RAM. I didn't buy it to sit there empty, so the "how much RAM does it use" prick-waving contest among browsers is not interesting. |

I liked 4 and I'm liking 5, I hate tool bars and extra clutter, it runs fast as well, it is still RAM black hole. I usually shut the system down at night, and reboot a time or two during the day if it needs it

well last night when I clicked on the Firefox desktop icon- it did an automatic upgrade to .ver 5 with no option to cancel.
It crashed 3 times last night before I finally took the update to Flash. Seems to be running well now though. 26 tabs open and 361 MB of RAM used. |

I like the new layout that came with 4. I have no problems other than Gestures and Tabs add ons don't work yet.
Mozbackup took a dump on me once so I don't trust it. Sync so far does what I need. 5 works good so far. |
