A 19-year-old Alaska-based soldier from central Wisconsin is dead and two other soldiers wounded after their Stryker vehicle hit an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan. The Defense Department says Pvt. Ryan J. Larson of Friendship, Wisc., died Wednesday in Kandahar Province. Larson had been in the U.S. Army for only a year. The infantryman joined the Army last June and arrived at Fort Wainwright in October. Larson and the two wounded soldiers were assigned to the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Fort Wainwright. They deployed to Afghanistan with their 4,000-soldier brigade in April. The two wounded soldiers were not seriously hurt. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker says Larson "gave his life so that we may enjoy the blessings of a free society." My point is, I get really pissed off how Ryan Dunn can crash his car after leaving a Bar and its all i see all over the internet and im sure it will be all over TV tonight. They were heros and I'm betting they had not been drinking nor were they in the entertainment limelight.
That's how it goes in these United States,,,, |
|
dont shit on my thread.. I never get a multi page thread
but Rip to a true hero and someone who should be rememebered. |
|
These men are heroes and deserve respect. I would hope that the same type of asshattery that is driving the other thread wouldn't gain traction in a thread about these men.

Thank you for posting this, Sir. All over FB is people saying how sad they are that Dunn died, after a night of drinking.
How about the men who died fighting for us? RIP to the fallen and hearts out to their families. |

It's threads like this that really make me look introspectively and ask myself:
What is an American? Just because someone happens to be born here, does that really make them a true American? Or is it something more, that is defined by what we do and stand for, and not just by chance? |
|
Thank You RIP Soldier
I found no reason to reply to the other thread |

Thank you for your sacrifice... that we may live as we do +1 |

I have no idea who Ryan Dunn is but from the thread I can understand why.
I don't know any of the others listed but one of them, Chief Warrant Officer Bradley J. Gaudet, 31, is from my hometown and all of them are hero's in my opinion. BigDozer66 |

It was in the news around here... heard it on the radio.
Only heard about Dunn from Arfcomm. |

Let alone get 6 pages in GD Since you asked, since millions of people have seen him on TVs and movies, they have heard his name, familiar with his work, and they are not necessarily feeling a personal loss, but they hate to see that happen to anyone. Pretty simple. That's not to take anything away from the great personal sacrifice of the soldier, but if it had been someone that was well known, it would have been all over the news ( just the same as Pat Tillman was ). |

It took me a couple of glances to see you were talking about two Ryans. Who the fuck is Ryan Dunn?
|
|
OP, when I saw the thread about Dunn, I asked myself...who? Then I dug a little deeper and found out who he was.
I did not know who he was. I honestly don't give a shit about Dunn's death other than to hope that no one else was killed or injured due to his or his companions stupidity. I did not know any of the service members listed above, or any of their families. The deaths of the troops listed bothers me very much, just like it always does when I read the names of the fallen. Yes it is a fucked up world with fucked up priorities. |

"America has become a place where athletes and entertainers have become mistaken for people of importance." - Robert Heinlein Isn't that the truth. We lose people all the time who make vital contributions, soldiers, Doctors, scientists, but they don't sell advertising like celebrities. Case in point: in the last week, we lost two of the greatest electrical engineers the country had. If you weren't in the field, you would never know who they were. Other countries did. Bob would travel to a different city every day, for months, teaching analog engineers the secrets of good design. These tours included Europe, India, and China.
Indeed, when Bob showed up at a Chinese meeting hall in 2004, the fire marshals had to intervene since almost 700 engineers came to hear what he had to say. http://www.edn.com/article/518568-Analog_engineering_legend_Bob_Pease_killed_in_car_crash.php http://www.edn.com/article/518496-Analog_guru_Jim_Williams_dies_after_stroke.php I can guarantee there are devices in your house or office that have stuff inside them that was designed by these guys, or their proteges. Their companies made hundreds of millions and created jobs for tens of thousands. Bob was driving his '69 VW when he passed. No flash no glitz. Both worked till the end. Those are losses, as are the soldiers who give it their all, until the end. |

I'll add to this thread. I couldn't give a sh*t about the other one.

This is my current FB status: "Yes Ryan Dunn died Why all the RIP for him (its tragic and all but) i dont see you all saying RIPs when US Troops die. Have you met the troop that died? No but you aint homeboys with Ryan Dunn either. What has Ryan Dunn ever done for you that tops what US Troops do for you everyday? Its hard to keep track but over 20 US Troops have died this month Serving this country. SO PLEASE STFU ABOUT RYAN DUNN!!!!!!! EAD" |

It's 6 pages of "who cares".
This thread may not reach 6 pages, but there won't be a single post wasted with "who cares"

I have respect for Service members. I don't keep up with tabloids.
|
|
OP, would you have posted about these men if Ryan Dunn didn't die?
I think it's sad that the only time you hear of young men giving their life for this country is if it's local. I'm sure it happens everyday. Prayers to the families of these great American heros. |
|
Annoying where some of the country's priorities are , isnt it .
God help us all . |
|
In all fairness, the Ryan Dunn thread is 7 pages of people who do and don't give a fuck about him arguing back and forth.
In this thread, there isn't any question of whether or not the men in the OP are important enough to care about. Thread length isn't necessarily indicative of the quality of content, more often than not it just means there's something for people to argue about. This post brought to you by the letter 6 and the color twelve. |

Godspeed to all the young Men and Women serving and getting hurt over there....
