Matt,

I consider myself an authority in beer. To best maximize your quanity and sacrifice your quality I recommend Keystone Ice. Again I am an authority in beer, beer tasting, beer consumption, beer stockpiling, and anything else related to beer.

Make yourself a beermeister. You can drink quality micro beers for the same price as bud.

When I used to drink I loved Lucky Lager, $3.89 for a 12 pack and it came with these cool little picture puizzles on the inside of the cap.  I never could figure them out after the 5 or 6th beer.

You need to start homebrewing...5 gal for ~$20 after you buy the equipment (which you can cut corners on to save $$$).  Then, when you got more money flowing in, you can graduate to kegging. You'll find that your own beer (with the right recipe) will be better than that Paulaner.

Anyone old enough to remember Meister Brau-blech-at my hardest drinkingest brokest period I couldn't choke down that swill. A can of that sat in our dorm room for a year because no one could drink it.

Hamms used to be real cheap in Western Colorado...

Of course you could always go to Golden and tour the Coors Brewery every day or so ...
Maybe even get a job as a beer taster...

I no longer drink, but I can assure you, my friend, that I was an EXPERT at getting the most bang for my buck when it came to booze.

THIS is the definitive answer:

The best cheap beer is...

Southpaw Lager is surprisingly good for a cheap beer...  I've seen it for $3.50/6-pack...

...though I will second the brew kit others have suggested...  After the initial investment, it pays off in spades.  I have a friend who brews his own, and the results are pretty damn tasty...

There is no finer "entry-level" beer, cheap or otherwise, than Pabst Blue Ribbon!!!

I've consumed massive amounts of cheap beer in my time, so I know a little about it.

My vote is for Natural Light. Unlike most other cheap beers (Milwaukees Best, Keystone Light, etc.), Natural Light doesn't taste like dirty socks. As a matter of fact, it has very little taste at all. This is a very important advantage when it comes to cheap beer IMO.

"Purity Body Flavor"

Fact.
If you're drinking cheap beer, it might as well be strong beer.

When it comes to cheap beer that is also easy to find/common, I will second the vote for Busch/Busch Light.  If I see Natural Light at the store, I may try that though.

That said, I always splurge and buy Miller High Life in bottles, or skip it in favor of Old Thompson (new thread!!! CHEAP LIQUOR!)  or once in awhile I put on the good clothes and pick up a bottle of Canadian Windsor. [peep]

Good God, my former father outlaw used to drink that.  We were over there for thanksgiving dinner one time and that was our wonderful drink to accompany the evening.  God that tastes like shit.

Country Club malt liquor. 6-pack hearabouts runs around $1.50
It's the cheapest swill ever dragged from the bottom of a mash tun.
