As a favor, I have been helping my girlfriends family get a inground community pool set up for the summer.  Everyday a large duck comes and floats around in the pool and shits his brains out.  Because of the pools location in the center of a packed subdivision, shooting the damn thing is out of the question.  Do any of you guys have any suggestions?  I need to get him out quick.  Health inspector is coming on Friday.  Thanks

Yep, pellet gun, BB gun, or a .22 with birdshot.

**edited to add that a paintball gun would work as well, but it would take a few more shots(unless you load marbles in instead[}:D]).

I've shot him repeatedly with a bb gun and he keeps coming back.  And I don't have access to a taser though I have thought about it.

OLY-M4gery, do they sell those at Home Depot?

Home centers sell giant plastic owls for just this purpose.  My dad HAD a problem with a family of shit machines, this cured it.

Move the Owl at least once a day or they somehow figure it out.

I've been shooting him with bbs.  Would a pellet make much difference?

Also, what is the legality of taking this duck out of season?

unfortunately a 22 is out of the question because of the closeness of surrounding buildings.

Got a good throwing arm?  Hit him in the head with a speedball.  That will knock him out or kill him.

Shok

Killing it out of season would be bad news if you got caught.

You need something to convince it it doesn't want to be there, like a hawk, cat, or owl. I guess you could get a plastic version. But I was hoping a couple of weeks from now you would be asking what to do with a hawk.........

Net him, cook him, eat him.

Some sporting good stores sell owl decoys to scare off birds. You could try one of those.
otherwise a net over it when not in use.

Do you have a paintball gun? The velocity can be cranked up to about 400 fps. Load some BB's in a shotgun wadding and muzzle load it. otherwise use a few marbles...they shouldn't ricochet off the water, but they will kill the bird if you hit it in the head.

get a wrist rocket slingshot from wal-mart. a little low-velocity steel shot will persuade him to take his fertilizer plant elsewhere.

Once kids hit the pool the duck will probably want to be elsewhere. Also duck dropping compared to what kids will track in is somewhat minor.

Rather than killing the duck, which could result in a complaint to the cops from a neighbor, how about setting up a "tent" of netting around and over the pool.  The duck won't be able to get in, but the kids can find the flap and get in and out easily.

Be sure to leave enough space around the edge that a child can get out of the pool at any point along the perimeter.

Not a good idea 71!

I can see the headlines now!!

also the cost of the net would be more than the fine for shooting the duck...if you get a fine that is.

Dude, get a bigger air rifle. I got an Air Arms Pro Elite model in .22 cal, and I can roll up jackrabbits at about 30 yards with a head or chest shot. It gives me 850-900 fps depending on which pellet I use. They work wonders on pigeons and squirrels too, if you also have that problem. A head or chest shot from a good air gun is good medicine for Daffy. Beeman, FX, BSA and RWS also have some good .22 air rifles.
Look them up at www.straightshooters.com and see what the state of the art is in pneumatic toys for gun lovers!

.22 rifle and aguila colibris.  Don't worry about the neighbor's houses.  You'll be shooting into the water.

These rounds are so low-powered they can be shot inside the house.  They only have about 6 ft/lbs of muzzle energy, so any ricochet won't have enough energy to damage glass.  And they're as quiet as an air rifle.  Solving your duck problem this way will cost you $4.
