Battery  One 3 Volt Lithium battery type 2L76 or DL1/3N    Battery Life**  1.000–10.000 hours average    Switch, dot brightness  10 positions, Off and 9 daylight, of which 1 Extra Bright

From the Aimpoint site. You can also buy an accessory that allows two batteries to be used.

OK the Aimpoint M2 at full intensity setting runs for 1000 hours, the origional Comp M ran for 1 tenth of that or 100 hours.  If you left the M2 on all the time you'd need could  just change the battery every month (12 batteries x 4 bucks per battery=48 bucks per year)  if you were to keep a regular compM running all the time, you'd need to change the battery every 4 days.  That's 91 batteries(91 x 4=365 bucks) Which means you could buy a just buy a new CompM2 every year for the same amount of money you'd spend changing batteries for the CompM.

I have an "old" model and have only replaced the battery once...and I didn't really need to then, I was just going on a hunting trip and wanted to make sure it worked the whole time.
