Williamson County deputies say they have arrested a con artist using sick children to scam dozens of people out of money.
John Ramseier is in the business of keeping people healthy. He owns John's Gym near FM 620 and Anderson Mill Road.
Earlier this year, he teamed up with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to give children whose health has failed them a chance to enjoy what time they have left.
While in the planning stages of his fundraiser, Ramseier says a jolly cowboy named Charlie Woods came to his gym and offered to help.
"Big belt buckle, tight jeans, cowboy hat, has a laugh you can hear a mile away,” Ramseier said of Woods.
While Woods may have gained Ramseir's trust, he decided to postpone his fundraiser, but deputies say Woods carried on.
They say during the past four weeks, Woods went around to businesses and bars in the Northwest Austin area selling bogus $5 raffle tickets for a new Ford truck telling his victims the money would go to Make-A-Wish. Victims say Woods even showed them a picture of a sick child he claimed they would be helping.
