"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that." ~Martin Luther King Jr

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke)

one of my "friends" on there has that quote and I replied with this...he was not a human being, he was a cockroach that was finally stomped out after ten years. if anything, we gave him mercy by just throwing his worthless carcass into the ocean and not bringing him back here and spitting on him like he was Mussolini.

I've never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure - Mark Twain

The Burke and Orwell quotes are good and both approprite, but this is the one I went with
"I have never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure." -Mark Twain edit to add, THREE SECONDS! |

Quoted:
“We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm.” - George Orwell Very fitting. |

“One bleeding-heart type asked me in a recent interview if I did not agree that ‘violence begets violence.’ I told him that it is my earnest endeavor to see that it does. I would like very much to ensure—and in some cases I have—that any man who offers violence to his fellow citizen begets a whole lot more in return than he can enjoy.”

We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm. Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil. An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile — hoping it will eat him last. We all dream of a world of sunshine, happiness, and peace. The problem is...half of people think it sounds like a wonderful place to live, the other half think it sounds like a wonderful place to pillage. Some of my present favorites. |

I Samuel 15:3. Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

"So, here's the REAL quote: "Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence and toughness multiples toughness in a descending spiral of destruction." My wife's cousin utter this bullshit last night on her FB wall:
I do not celebrate death. Death does not bring peace. Murder does not make history...diplomacy does...and i will not celebrate until diplomacy is made.
It went quickly downhill from there. She is now no longer welcomed at said cousin's house and was also unfriended by the cousin's mom (her aunt). Fuck 'em. Two less idiots I have to deal with cordially at future family gatherings. |

I'm a First World War history buff, particularly interested in the Battle of Verdun. Read about the taking of Fort de Vaux. It's quite an awe-inspiring tale of hardship and courage. My heritage is half French but, while I'm known to throw out the "surrender monkey" tag at today's crop of Frogs, they weren't always neutered. |
