Just cut off the military aid and let India do it for us.

Isn't the reason for the Paki newks the fact that India has newks?

I'd have less trouble with your suggestion if it was a gunpowder war.

Umm ya we can't afford to borrow anymore money to play world police.

In this case put the hammer down I think is to pull the trigger and put the hammer down on a bullet.  The Paki's are double dealing turds at best.

I think changing the story from "killed last week" to "killed last night" sent a signal that we are still in the game with Pakistan.  "killed last night" is RoPer PC talk, which will take the pressure off of Pak government after next Friday's prayer service. {as long as they do not find out about that piece of bacon}

Pakistan is at least partially responsible for the rise of the Taliban and Iran's nuclear weapons program. We should have never 'befriended' them in the first fucking place.

Now that it is claer the Pakis were hiding him......

Pakistan is not some monolithic country that is in charge of everything within its borders.

I think the government's sphere of control is a might bit smaller than the borders represented on the map.

There are at least two power groups in Paki, the offical .gov and the secret service that has strong ties to the Taliban and Al-Quadi. Sure an element was looking the other way while his compound was built and occupied a short distance from a Paki military complex. But the offical Paki .gov apparently helped us get the bad guy so there is that.

What is to gain from punitive action in Pakistan?  Or anywhere else for that matter?  Personal revenge I can understand, in some cases endorse.  On a national level, we have better things to do with our men and money.  If you want revenge, just recruit some young idealistic democrats to go over and "help poor Pakistanis" by "organizing their communities."  Should provide a nice, slow, withering death that could be savored from afar, for free.

Seriously!  Pakistan is barely a coherent country much less a monolithic political bloc.  The divisions in our country are nothing compared to the way some countries are split.

The town he was in was only a few fucking miles (30 or so) from there capital...  Hell, Abbottabad is home to a major military university and is full of retired military personnel.  I call bullshit.  More than likely they were getting paid to hide him, then the money finally ran out.

So we want to stay entangled with Pakistan, who is ambivalent toward us and harbors terrorists, to keep them out of a nuclear conflict with India, who is ALSO ambivalent toward us and an economic competitor.  The results of which would be a destroyed Pakistan and a damaged India.

Nope, still can't give a shit.

And Musharaff's bitching is just plausible denial, worked out a few days in advance with us.

Who says Pakistan was hiding him?

I kinda thought he was an illegal immigrant and was hiding from them with a bunch of his sympathisers.  There's probably some serious questions to be asked about how he came to be there and who was giving him safe haven but the entire nation of Pakistan wasn't hiding him.

I don't hear much in the way of protests about Bin Laden's demise coming out of Pakistan right now. Quite the contrary
