I've never used a sewing machine in my life. I haz one, and I'm reading the instruction manual. These fuckers are complicated.

I watched a few youtube videos on how to hem jeans, and sort of combined the various techniques in my head. I have no idea what I'm doing, and I've never done anything remotely like this, but I fancy myself a handy guy. How card can it be?

Wish me luck? I'm sure the ladies of arfcom would be laughing their asses off, watching my try this.

EDIT: Holy shit, I actually did it. I'll be damned.

They're too long, and I've begun to damage them in the back.

Should be fine. I think. Maybe. Probably not.

Typical behavior for a Michigan fan.

I know a Chinese lady that could give your vagina a nice waxing, too.

Why not try it on a pair of old, unwanted trousers first, just as a dry run?

retaining/recreating the distressed look of the original hem is the hardest part. done correctly, no one will know they were hemmed. incorrectly, and they'll look like bad mom jeans. you may want to read up on that part. if you plan on wearing them with your white reeboks, it probably won't matter. stitch away.

People spend that kind of money on jeans?  I spend $20 and feel like I'm getting raped.

Just stop unless you have a Union Special chain-stitching machine.

Pay someone who does.

Lot easier to do by hand if you are only going to do one pair.

good job keeping the original hem

After an hour of reading shit and watching videos, I figured it like this:

1. On my very first time EVER attempting sewing, I probably wasn't going to create a hem that looked as cool as the original

2. It's actually a lot easier to just keep it, so win/win.

Brooks Brothers offers US made Levi's for $150. They're very well made and much nicer looking than the $100+ jeans from Buckle or Lucky Jeans.
